Trailrider,
The 04 your describing sounds like a steal....at $15K sounds like the used truck market is a winner also

I lost that last reply, but anyway - please, if you are buying the new model style be sure that you are not buying a repurchased vehicle from Ford. Run the reports on the internet including an OASIS report from a Ford dealer. To me it looks like Ford is buying back almost as many of the newer F-150's as they did the early 6.0 diesels.
Buyer beware and do the proper research.

Our truck has 3.73 gears and a fiberglass shell that probably weighs 300 pounds. And, that average of 16 mpg includes launching and recovering boats at our lake lot which requires 4-wheel-low, probably not more than a half mile overall, but it matters a little.
And, by the way - Ford's limited slip system at least on the 1997-2003 trucks works very well. Our truck does have limited slip and with the lower gears, she just crawls when pulling rather heavy boats in and out of the water. So far in over six years on a hand/made-stone, very rough and steep boat ramp -not one stuck and she just crawls and pulls. Feels like a big Jeep.
Like I said before - this is the best truck we have ever had and that is over 35 years now of Ford truck ownership. But, we are not impressed with the new offering.
Wish we could buy our current 1999 truck with the new engine, assuming that Ford has finally figured out how to make the variable valve timing work properly. That's the kind of technology that we need, but it needs to mark an improvement in overall gas mileage too.

I have an 05 4x4 Supercab FX4 with 3.73/1 gears, limited slip, 18" wheels, 5.4l and only 300 miles. 1st tank (and I dont know if the Dealer filled it all the way up) was 11.9 mi/gal. These modular motors take 2 - 3 thousand miles to break in and get better milage. It will go up some. I also plan on an AF1 and a Troyer Tune via the Xcal 2 as soon as I sell my Mustang Mods. This should improve it as well.
How about some milage figures from some Modded trucks. Jusat how good can it get?
Oh ya, if you plan on a new truck the time is now, the deals are sweet

Even with employee pricing, a 2005 XLT 4X2 SC will run me about $22,000.
That $7,000 difference will buy me a lot of toys.
I'll let you all know what I end up doing.
Keep submitting your MPGs. Thanks.

I then spent the entire day looking everywhere. All I could find was scratched up stuff and that smelt like cigarettes, and all of the dealers wanted more than the price off a new truck.
About 10 hours later, there was a light at the end of the tunnel, I found a sweet used truck with only 3,400 miles on it. It's not a Ford, though. But it is pretty nice.
Thanks to all of your for your inputs.
