cylinder misfired, replaced coil pack, now will not start

Had a cylinder 2 misfire message. Replace coil pack per instructions from advance auto guy. This did not fix the misfire problem, so I put the original coil pack back on. Once I did that, the engine no longer started.

Getting a machine gun noise when I try to start. Put the new coil pack back on but the starting problem remains. Any ideas? I do not believe the battery to be dead since it started ok before I put the original coil pack back on. I know I have the wires in the correct place, because I inserted on the new as I removed from the old.

If your discribing the starter relay clicking then you either have a low battery or poor cable connection that just may be a coincedence.
Run the radio too long, left a door open etc.
Hood up lites a nite lamp.
The batteries in these trucks are not all that large in capacity then add age to them yet.
Jump it to start then check the charging system for problems.
Did you put a new plug in place and be sure the boot is good?

+1 sounds like dead battery probably from having door open and hood up for to long... only thing im curious about is i thought they had battery protection where it shuts the lights off if the battery get below power to crank the motor over... ive heard of some cars having this but i doubt our trucks do

corroded wires arent fire friendly either... or atleast mine werent. check and see if theres corrosion on your cable ends, that hampered my starting ability until i cleaned it up.

Thanks for the responses

I'll try jumping it tonight. I noticed one of the connectors on the other coil pack seemed a little off-center, so that may be the problem as well. Maybe just a coincidence. Thanks for the help.
