Question Top 3?

What top three engine mods combined would give me the best power increase. Please dont say NOS or like superchargers.....Im talking like chips and air intakes and so on. What three put together complement eachother the most.

AF1 is an overpriced air intake.

I will guess that you have a 5.4 in your truck. I am Assuming that you have 3.73 gears also.

You're not going to get any "serious" improvements with a simple three part bolt on, but you can get a little more pickup.

You can start with the typical air intake and K&N filter. I personally wouldn't waste the excessive money on the high dollar brand name units. You can save some money for future mods by just buying one of the inexpensive units off ebay that won't run you more than $50-$60 bucks shipped to you. Others will make rips at that, but hey, I have a 3 inch rubber sewer pipe elbow from Lowes on my supercharger, and it works wonders. $8 bucks instead of $40 bucks for the nice silicone one.

Your next mod, and one you'll feel the best after, is an exhaust system. Don't skimp here, as it will be something you'll always regret if you do. Depending on what you want to spend, there are a lot of options. If you're staying on the cheap, then you can get a flowmaster catback setup for about $200. If you want to do it real nice, then you can increase the pipe diameter, or even add duals. I personally added 3 inch duals with high flow cats and flowmaster 40 series mufflers, but I knew I was going to add a supercharger and if you're not going to, then the 3 inch is going to be overkill for you, and 2.5" will do. And, just to add something to get me chastized by everyone else, magnaflow is a crappy choice.

Finally, you say programmer. A programmer isn't going to net you monstrous gains on a truck with an exhaust and intake. Miracles don't work like that on trucks. There are several out there, each with its own individual characteristics. Keep an open mind when choosing one, and do some research. You won't need a "custom" tune for such minor mods, I don't care what anyone else says. I personally use diablosport products, but have heard good things about other manufacturers.

With those three mods, you'll most likely be looking at around a 30HP peak gain. Those astronomical numbers that get posted by the compaines about their products are a load of crap. You're not going to get 20HP out of a cold air intake, IAT resistor chip, or any other cheap bolt on.

I know you didn't want to hear this, but a base model supercharger is the easiest and most efficiant manner of adding HP. You can strap on a 6 psi powerdyne for less than $1500 (buying used) and get three times what you'd get from all three of those above. The bottom line is this.....research, read, surf the net, get ideas and information from several places, including but not limited to here, and in the long run you'll be a happy camper
