Do I Need to worry?

Alright, I finally got the time and courage to change my spark plugs on my 2002 screw, 5.4L, thanks to matt Adams, "How to change your spark plus on a 5.4L." Everything was going fine until I went to put the driver's side fuel line on and found an o-ring missing on one of the injectors. I searched endlessly but to no avail. So i went down to the local auto parts store and purchased a few. My question is, since I could not find the blue o-ring from the injector would it be possible that if fell into one of the holes for the plugs? When I was putting the new plugs in, they all went in smoothly (except for the back ones). So I don't think I compressed the o-ring down into the hole. Should I be worried if it fell down on top of the piston? Would it just heat up and melt? HELP!!!

If I were a to wager a guess, I would tend to think the o-ring is somewhere else and not in the combustion chamber. IF it actually made it into the hole where the spark plug goes into, it would be probable it is alongside the spark plug hole and not in the combustion chamber. I wouldn't worry about it. Even if it did by chance fall into the combustion chamber - you can't do anything about it now - other than pulling the head. Crank it up.. you'll be fine.

Now, let me tell you a true story. Years ago I let friend of mine borrow one of my Holley 600cfm carburators to try out on his Camaro. He didn't get the performance he was looking for and put his old one back on. Immediately afterward, he locked up the engine. He called me over and we tore it down. I found the problem. When he was installing his carburator, he dropped one of the washers from the carburator into the intake. How he missed this, I don't know - there's only 4 washers and 4 nuts holding it on. Anyway, the washer got sucked into the combustion chamber (how it made it past the intake valve is still a mystery) and lodged itseft between the piston and cylinder wall. He was so embarrassed by it, that he asked me not to tell anyone what happened. That was almost 20 years ago. I guess I can share it now.
