What kind of gas mileage is everyone getting
#31
I think the reason the '04+ trucks get such absymal mileage in town is the weight. They're a lot heavier than the last generation of truck. It takes a lot of fuel to get them moving. On the highway the difference is not so noticable because the momentum issue is not as much in play. Once you are up to speed, it is more a function of air resistance.

06 SC, 5.4L, 3.55, and 20" rims/tires.......8.5k miles
Average about 17mpg mixed driveing taking it easy...
Haven't taken a road trip yet....But when I fill up and reset the MPG gage on short trips it measures about 19 up to 21 from 55 up to 75....
On a side note I have checked my mileage on every single tank since I have owned it and the MPG estimater has either been right on or no more than .3 off......If you keep your MPG selected at all times...You really curb your lead foot habits ALOT

Gas Mileage / Power Comparison
How does the 4.6L and 5.4L engines compare with gas mileage and performance with an automatic? Is there much difference in the 5.4 over the 4.6? I am down to a black with a 5.4 and red with a 4.6 all same features. The black 5.4 is $400 more with around the same mileage. I figure the 4.6 would be bad enough with gas but I want something that will get up and go. I get 31 MPG highway on a long trip / 20 MPG city/country in a automatic 1998 Ford Mustang GT 4.6 going at 65-80 MPH and would not have thought that the gas mileage would have suffered this much with a truck particularly on highway driving.

Full tuneup less than two weeks ago.

Usually, my mileage is pretty bad. Like 10 or 11 but that's because I drive only 3 and a half miles to work and the same home. Add the idle time when someone comes up to chat before we leave and, well, idling takes gas.
However! Two weeks ago I went to Michigan from Connecticut, AC working harder than the motor, cruise set at 75, and got between 21 and 22 MPG for the trip.
I've got an 04 2wd regcab longbed with the 4.6, auto and (I guess) 3.55's. I'm running 245r65x17 Bridgestones.
As I did two miles per gallon better than the window sticker said I should, I'm not complaining.
