hm 29 is a bit much yes lol. well i filled the neck up a little to round up to the nearest dollar and the neck takes a lot. i looked on the sticker thing that i kept when i originally got it from the dealer and it says 20mpg on the highway so im hoping thats what it is. i know its at least reasonable on fuel because i dont have to refill it that often but i also try to keep my foot out of it in the city, on the highway its a different story lol. i remember a road trip i went on and it was around 500km's to the tank, there abouts, the tank wasn't totally empty so maybe like 21-22gallons. is that more reasonable?

also while we're on the topic of engines, this may seem odd but whenever i buzz along the highway doing 1500rpm it seems to use just as much gas as when i go faster doing 2000rpm, am i going nuts or what? lol.

I still think 20MPG is asking a lot out of a full sized truck. What year and what engine do you have?? 4X4? Automatic? If you have a reg cab v6 with a stick you can probably get in the low 20's driving it easy on the highway. However, my original point was that you can't get an accurate read on gas mileage by just looking at how much the needle moved on the gas gauge. You have to start with a full tank and then when you do fill it back up you need to do it in the same way as before - i.e., topping it off twice everytime, etc. Then of course divide your miles driven by how many gallons you put in.

I don't know which engine you have, but if it is a V8 I'd have a hard time seeing anything over 18MPG. Just my opinion from owning lots of different trucks over the years. Regardless of brand, none of them ever got me 18 MPG. Except for the time that I was coming out of Yellowstone Park towards Jackson Wyoming. I was driving a 4.7 ltr Dodge Dakota crew cab (4x4). It was mostly downhill and I coasted at least half the way. I think I got 21 MPG that tank. Normally, that truck got 13.5 MPG.

I had a 1997 F150 crew cab, flareside, 4x4, 4.6ltr automatic. I had 33" tires and 16x10 wheels. I averaged between 13 and 14 MPG with that rig. On the highway I could squeek out 15mpg if I babied it. If you are getting 18 to 20 MPG, you should be very pleased.

I average about 12-13 in the city and 17-19 on the highway, depending on the conditions.

Unhappy

The way I am checking my MPG's is as soon as the fuel light turns on, I go to the nearest gas station and put 10 gallons of gasoline and reset the trip odometer. I drive the truck for a while and as soon as the fuel light turns on again, I divide the number of miles from the trip odometer by 10 to see my average. I have done this several times (add 10 gal. and reset the odometer) and 11-12mpg in town is the best I can get out of my truck.

Averaging 17MPG with a 6" lifted V8 truck with oversized tires and wheels?? The fan kit, CAI and exhaust must make a hell of an improvement. What did you get when the truck was stock??

Not real accurate, you may be off as much as 1 mpg from time to time. I have enjoyed keeping records for the last 30,000 miles. I fill it to the top every time, try to use the same pump at each place, record the miles driven since the last fillup. I have used various brands and the results have been interesting. I keep it all in an Excel spreadsheet that includes nots as to how I drove and where the gas was purchased.
