I've had the '83 set on cruise somewhere over 100 for about an hour or so, but it was a cool night so I didn't have to worry about the tires overheating. I was gauging my speed with the milemarkers & my stopwatch, and pacing a Mark VIII, so I can't remember the exact speed, but I know it wasn't far from 110.
I don't have to worry about it on either CV since they're both running on cop computers. Both have done WELL over 115; the '99 for about 10 hours straight.

There are two limiters.
An engine RPM and a vehichle speed limiter.
Both are software adjustable with a tuner.
Where they are factory set is dependent on the safe driveline specs, tires etc. in the PCM program version.
The speed limiter is usually based on limiting drive line speeds that might cause failure. IE driveshaft, tire speed rating etc. If cheap low priced tires are put on and you go fast, expect anything to happen.
The engine limiter is there for over rev protection.
Example; the converter life is threatened above about 5500 rpm. They have a tendency to balloon and wreck the trans.
Any truck could run into either limiter first as they won't trigger at the same points, usually.

Admittedly my 92 is old and needs some work, shocks etc, but I'd have no desire to exceed any limiting built in - did they put the speed limiter in back that far? I think I'd redline before I got much more than 80 or so (I'm more used to looking at the km/h) - it's a 5.0
And, it has the porno red, with a bench seat....missus and I have joked about reliving our younger days on that bench seat (ok not many pickups in NZ/Australia, where I was living in my youth, only "utes" which are like a an el camino, sorta. That red interior makes my truck look 20 years older!
Not that I've driven many performance type cars, but for sheer roadholding and top end, my 99 VW golf was amazing - it didn't really shine til around 60mph, it was totally stock standard and the gearing was I guess for autobahn no-speed limit sorta stuff, when I first bought it, I ran it in on a long trip, on the way there I thought the performance was a bit ordinary (I'd never run in a brand-new car before) but on the way back, around the 3000 km mark, it really started to loosen up and the speed got away from me, at one point, downhill I thought I was a little over the speed limit, 100km/h, then realised I was doing 200km/h which is around 125 mph! It really felt like 70.
It was a sweet car. I had to sell it to pony up my part of the divorce settlement....sigh.

pj, In your 92, the computer is the older EEC.
They have a number of lines in the program that can be used to limit engine speed/rpm depending on the application from the factory.
Normal autos like HO 5L such as the Mustang is rev limited to 6250.
Some cars such as the Lincoln Mark 7 are also road speed limited to about 118 mph in addition to the rev limit.
It depends on what options the vehichle has. In the case of the Lincoln Mk 7, they have electric powered ABS brake systems that use 4 wheel speed sensors that also input to the EEC. In these cases, disabling the ABS only function often inhibits the speed limiter since the speed signal from the module is also inhibited. Sometimes the VSS signal is also used but wheel speed is the most accurate for this purpose..

A '92 truck only has 1 sensor for the speedo, transmission, cruise, & RABS: the ABS sensor on the rear diff. And the truck EECs only have a rev limiter; no speed limiter. You can find the exact number at FordFuelInjection.com .
