Question 2001 F-150 Triton V8 jerking/hesitating between 30-50mph

I have a 2001 F-150 Triton V8 4.6L Lariat that suddenly has started jerking/hesitating between 30-50mph. The first time it happened the Overdrive light came on. The next day the light was off and so was the jerking. The Mechanic told me to put some high-test gas in it. Now the Service Engine light is on and it's jerking alot. What's wrong with this?

Thanks

You need to read your codes.

I had a very similiar problem with my 2000 F150 5.4. Took it to the dealer and it ended up being two bad coils. I also has a very strong fuel smell from the exhaust due to the fuel in two cylinders not being ignited. Just my two cents.

If the overdrive light blinked it stored a code in the computer. Any mechanic can pull it and point you in the right direction.

Hi,

Great advice , get those codes read stars, most likely a coil , 2001 4.6 so you have the COP system correct? You are wireless - lol. - plug wires , you are without , is that right ? High-test lol, haven't heard it called that Ina while. That Mechanic wanted to see you buck a little higher I thinks. haha.

The TPS is a possibility as well , but TPS malfunctions , usually do not attach to one certain area within the drive cycle as you described. The problem exists between 30- 50mph - Common Coil failure scenario .

Go to auto zone for a free reading , doesn't matter what the auto zone employee says , just make sure that you yourself see the numbers on the code reader , report them back to this thread. There usually someone around to help you with it.

If misfiring , unplug that cylinders injector (saves gas , protects your cats and you won' t catch on fire .) kiddinggg, sheeesh.

Good luck.
