Head ?'s

I have a 98 4.6l f150 and want to get a bit more out of her. I was thinking about doing some kind of head swap.

What are my choices as far as heads go. Also i see that they make a PI head for the 4.6l also. Is this worth it? If it is, is it model spacific or would the heads out of a crown vic(4.6l) fit my f150 and work well?

Secondly..... I have an edge evo and i would like to keep running it. But if i did a stock conversion to like say pi heads for the 4.6l would that mess wtih my tuning at all?

Go to mustang forums and they will tell you all about the PI swap. It seems to have all benifits and no draw backs. You get higher compression to boot. It shouldn't mess with your edge at all. Mustang forums are full of great info for the 4.6

The PI headswap was definitely worth the time and money.

To do the PI head swap, do you need a PI intake manifold, or does the NPI manifold fit the PI heads?

You need a PI intake. The ports are shaped differently.

And there is tons of info on the 4.6 Mustang and Crown Vic sites on doing the swap.

The down side to the PI swap is the compression ratio increase of one point. Also, another intake will be needed.
I would consider having your NPIs reworked, that is ported and polished, and it is possible to use PI cams with these heads.

So about that right front tire. Ifell of a ledge and it was all bad. Check my gallery and youll see pics of the water i got on the inside of the cab. Boys and there toys LOL. Guess i should have checked it out first. LOL.

Back to the heads. I will ahve to check out the mustang sites. IT sounds like it would be worth a few extra pony's and i dont think it would run to much.... Does anyone know how much of a gain on power anyways. Some one mentioned having my intake ported to fit the pi heads or did i just read him wrong. Could you clear that up?

Im really worried about my edge not working on it afterwards and it making my truck run lean. Does the 99-03 4.6l run the pi heads for there 4.6l.? I know the edge works on all 97-03 f150s so if the pi's on one a newer one then there wouldn't be a problem. Right????

This is some great info and i would like to hear more about it.

You said you had a two page write up. Is that in the forums? If so can you post a link to it?

are you saying to run the npi heads with a ported intake and use the pi cams. What would it take to run those cams in the non pi heads?

You can get more power out of a NPI heads - I've read about this before - hit that link ONELOWF posted

Another thing you want to do is watch ebay , everyones after the PI heads and I've seen crate motor NPI heads sell for $125 on eBay.. It's worth getting a spare set IMO.

You can pick this set up for under $100 -

WOW Those guys are crazy. Way more uppity then the F150 guys here. They get all kinds of mad about this stuff. LOL I read the first two pages and i got this out of it.

1.) PI heads offer a little more performance just bolted on.....

2.) NPI heads when P&P can yeild more than stock PI heads....

3.) P&P PI heads will run about the same as P&P NPI heads.....

Is this what you guys got out of all that jumble?????

Also the way someone mentioned something on there made me think that PI heads came on 4.6's in the 98 year. could someone clear this up and alsp is there a way to look at mine and tell. Is it in the casting like on the 5.4l?

The PI's on the 5.4L came in 99. I don't think the 4six's sported them until 00-01 , around the same time they evolved into the more advanced and high tech COP systems. The same system thats been on the 5fours from the get go..
