tuck 1, I have pulled boats with both a 2wd Chevy 5.3 and a 4wd Ford 5.4 and I said the same thing you're saying now. Only difference is I was sitting in the Chevy when I asked the question. If you want a fast Ford truck you're gonna have to get a lightning or supercharge your truck. If you want to pull a trailer and not wonder if you're gonna make it up a steep grade you've got the right truck. If you want to wake your truck up just a little bit, relatively cheaply, then get a tuner.

If you have some education with the F150 5.4 and how to tune it with parts or suggestions, I would like to hear from you.
the 5.3 is a small block the 5.4 is a overstroked motor.. the 5.3l builds rpm even faster than the 4.6 does. so the 5.3 is superior for speed but not towing.

One thing I have noticed is that while the 5.4 may not have the power of some chevy or dodge engines. The ford truck overall has a better ride, build quality, and reliability. I work for a company that uses all brands in it's fleet. I just bought my old ford ('02 F150 5.4)that I drove for the last two years and 70k miles, and now drive an '04 chevy 2500 with 6.0.
The chevy is definitley faster, but rides like a bucket of bolts. The ford with more than double the mileage (145k mi) rides like brand new and has no squeaks, rattles, and still goes down the road sraight as an arrow with no hands... amazing. The ford also gets better fuel economy.

This forum really gets going, Well I put on a pipe, a cold air intake and a Diablosport tuner. It woke up the truck so I will see how it pulls my boat this summer and how it will do in the mountians this winters with my sleds. So thanks for the help and if you have any more info drop my a E-mail.

ive got a die hard chevy buddy who says my 4.6 has some go to it. i couldnt agree more with the people who said gm interiors are cheap, though i will admit they at least tried to make a decent interior in the new body styles and succeded somewhat, but the ford interior is still better. as for the chevy/gmc seats, yes they SUCK! my 02's seats are the most comfortable seats ive ever sitten in, even more comfortable than the office chair im in right now. now for power, if you wanted to go fast and/or be able to take corners good, then get a car or a bike (or lightning). fords torque is perfect for pullin loads and riding on big rubbers. im happy with my 4.6, its got some umph to it and it at least throws me into the seat when i gun it. (it also showed up a so called v-tec [i wish they would learn what it even does before they brag about it]) although im happy with it, i eventually plan on putting a modded 32v 5.4 out of a navigator in it someday if i dont decide to trade it in with a 4x4 after high school (yes it will be a ford) the only chevies i like are the older ones (80s body and below)
btw, i found a nice meaning for ford today : Found Off-Road Daily , i thought it was awsome

Although the absence of the Ford Lightning has been driving certain Ford truck enthusiasts crazy (as well as old Ford Lightning prices skyward), Steve Saleen is looking to work a little performance magic for the power-hungry sport truck loyalists. By this summer, at select Ford dealerships, you will be able to order the Saleen Sport Truck S331. Among the highlights will be a retuned suspension, 23-inch wheels, 305/40-series street tires, various ground effects, interior accents, and supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter 24-valve V-8 that puts out over 450 horsepower. The truck will only be offered in two-wheel drive SuperCab configuration but will offer a host of color combinations and options. Base model S331s (no supercharger) will hover around $40,000, with fully loaded models getting over the $50,000 mark with ease. Look for full performance test in an upcoming issue of Truck Trend.

their power adders dont do much and the rest of the packages is usually visual, granted a slick looking vehicle gets sales, but most of us want power!

It is sharp looking, but so is my 4x2 Lariat. I'd rather add the s/c kit to that and leave it look moderately stock. That way when someone wants to play and think they have an easy victim, I can throughly embarrass the **** out of them...

Same principal as my '05 F-250 Powerstroke. Do not play with me! For one, I'll literally lay a smoke screen down so thick you basically need to drive around it. Two, when you do finally see my truck again, I'm about half a mile away...
