Talking Motorcraft Filters (K&N Part II)

Since many people didn't care for the K&N drop-in filters, what is the cheapest way to purchase Motorcraft Filters for a '01 5.4L Supercrew and a '05Freestyle?

You can try searching for a wholesaler at the link below, but you can purchase motorcraft filters from any Ford dealer.

Why don't you just go down to your local parts house and purchase a Fram or Wix air filter?

What's the dirty word? Fram? If he is looking at using the stock motorcraft filter then he can't do any worse by using a Fram. Obviously I have an after market intake and I use a WIX filter in the wife's 4runner.

If you are doing your own maintenance set up an account with Filter-one.com. You can get WIX filters from them and no shipping or tax (if you order 6 or more filters).

Not sure which filter your SCREW takes:
* 42572 $8.05 ($22.51 list) or
* 46418 $11.45 ($32.01 list)

It looks like the Freestyle takes a #46924 for $10.64 ($29.76 list)

Just make sure you don't get one with Unicorns... they will **** it up and poke holes in your exhaust

Some people have this thing against Fram because some people thought it would be fun to stick filters through a band saw and the Fram one had thinner elements or something, so now everybody hates Fram. That's the sum-up.

I've never had a problem with Fram, run those filters in the MerCruiser for years and no problems. I usually user Purolator, only because that's what the local Advance has in stock. No problems there either.

Yea, I figure that's what the article pretty much says. I have nothing against Fram myself and have used it in previous vehicles without incident. I don't read into stuff like that myself.

Yeah but?? If someone went thru the trouble and cut them in half to see what there made of (which the manufacture don't expect) and found the media less appropriate for the application - then found another design made allot better , wouldn't you prefer the ladder?

A bad filter - cause and effect , you won't know until many engine hours have passed , it's a prolonged death.

Idunno , I think sticking with the proven OEM filter is the way to go.

WIX air filters are pretty expensive in the F150 for some reason. I won't use FRAM oil filters, but I have a FRAM air filter in my truck. I did use a WIX fuel filter though. $30 for a disposable air filter (WIX) is too high for my taste.

Yea I use Wix oil filters in the 4runner (motorcraft in the truck) and last time I was buying the Wix oil filter I went ahead and picked up the air filter. It was a little high if I remember correctly.

If you have a Fram air filter, you might want to watch it:
