In the 97 air in and air out - intake and exhaust and custome tune the trans with a transgo kit. Edge and Superchips don't really offer a whole lot for the 97 unless you get head work done or convert to PI's and a PI plastic intake. The plastic PI truck intakes are good and with the heads, it's a net of about 30 hp if you add long tube headers to the mix , you'll have an easy 60 hp gainer.

I dont have the PI heads or intake. Would that yield more power and would my edge still work with them???? What should i look for if i planed on buying these? Where to look?

Power , yeah , same applies for your 98 as it does for the 97.
When you purchased your edge what did it say on the box - about compatibility? With PI's , your setting it up as a 2000 or 2001 4.6 motor - I'm not sure when PI heads were standard on the 4six but your edge would have to be capitable with that production year.

Wait !! No , that's wrong!! Because your computer has set parameters and your edge is communicating with a stock 98 computer. You'll need a custom tune from Troyer.

Just a little info, i was talking to my dad about this, (I installed a cai as well), anyways, he said to read the owners manual when doing the battery thing. The manual says, and I quote,
1) Reconnect terminals
2) Turn all accessories off and start truck, let it warm up to operating temp, then let idle for at least one minute
3) Turn on AC and let idle for at least 1 minute
4)Drive the vehicle around for the idle settings to adjust, this could take up to 10 miles of driving.
That is what my manual says, I have an '07 scab with the 5.4
Hope this helps!

If you go by the book like that - I would make sure you follow instructions for your model year.
These computers will adjust no matter how you drive her after a reboot - it just takes longer for it to do so if you don't follow the exact procedures..
That was a good post above - obviously going by the book for your model is best..

In my car i'm running 4.10 gears with a 10 inch torque converter that stalls around 3500rpms and it's a blast to drive around town but not so hot on the freeway. And if it rain's she just stay's home.
