I could of said that the 01 computers are higher strung - The 4six got COPs and PI heads at the same time. That was either in 2000 or 2001 - I can't recall and there was yet another head change half way thru 03 .
When you order gaskets you have to be part # specific . They kept moving the dowel holes around on the intake gaskets and heads - it sucks !! hard to get them right at the auto suppliers - the dealerships have the right ones and they ask for the #'s on the heads. That's why - they kept changing them around.
So , is the edge compatible ? Really ? I doubt it because all it will see is the stock programming stored in the 98's computer - when you call Troyer I believe you have to report the PI mod so his tune will accommodate it - other than that , how will the stock comp know? How will the edge take advantage of the upgrade when the comp is reporting stock head numbers by default?

Don't worry , I won't be a bastid and say one thing - I may be wrong anyho

Huh i didn't know that they switched them that much.
I still think the edge would work though by switching from non PI to PI
Mike tunes each vehicle based on exact VIN numbers where the edge doesn't do the full (7?) digit strategy to accomadate a wide variety of vehicles weather PI or not 5.4 or 4.6
Think of it like this, i can take a edge out of my truck and put it in your truck that is non PI and it will work.
Holy Chit one of us is gonna have some serious editing to do
I think twintips has already quoted you though
Ya i may be completely wrong myself

Yeah , it will work on mine because it's seeing what I actually got - if I upgraded to PI's, I think I would need a custom tune .

Isn't that how it works - Mike has to know your mods for the right strategies..??

Just keep the "I Thinks" and "Maybe's" in there

When it comes right down to it - a conversation with Mike will straiten it out..

Like you said (I think) - It has to be re-written , otherwise your comp can't be taught.

Maybe , unless it has it's own special little processor which gave it a mind of it's own.

That's Twilight Zone chit...

Like - "MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE" - Cool Movie..

Been thinking a little.
I see what your saying about it recognizing the comp for non PI heads when it has PI heads.I am starting to think it would not be able to fix it.
I think when you install the edge it reads your comp then saves the info then rewrites the comp with its strategy.I am unsure of what actually happens when it goes to rewrite the factory settings as to what it sees on your comp code.Thats way beyond me
That movie, how old is that because i don't remember that?
I'm done for now!You can always read the 500 pages of edge posts and prob find it Edited my first post
I think you won though I guess
Later jbrew
