pulling front axles out
#2
For further reference once you remove the driver side spindle that shaft pulls straight out, however on the passenger side there is a c-clip in the 3rd member housing that has to be removed. When you put it back together you can skip putting the c-clip on and preload the slip joint with most of the spring from a valve, by doing this if the u-joints go out again I won't have to drop the third member to replace them the passenger shaft will pull right out as well

Jack up truck and put on STANDS. Remove front wheels, brake caliper( tie it up so it doesn't hang on the hose), remove the spindle nut. This next step I learned the hard way. Unbolt the CV axle from the differential THEN remove the upper ball joint nut and pull the spindle towards you as you lift up on the upper A-frame.
(I dropped/pulled the spindle before unbolting the axle and it pulled the inned joint apart making it too long to get the shaft out of the spindle. I cut the inner boot band and the "bolt-up" section fell off making it easy to get the axle out)
I also had to unbolt the bottom of the shock and pull it out of the way so I could get the new shaft back in. The rest is the reverse of the disassembly. Posted a few photos here if you wish to take a look. http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...0pickups/TECH/
