Question engine swapping

first of all im 16 and very green at trucks. im getting my dads 1997 4.2L V6 that has 220,000 miles on it and runs kind of rough. im thinking of getting a engine swap for a engine that has more power. if anyone has any recommendations please help thanks.

i would stick with the ford truck engines, like previously stated the 5.4 is beefy, and its not toooo hard to get more power out of that before it starts to get to costly.
