EGR and Air Pump questions

ok i got 2 questions (i didnt know where else to put this)

i was fiddling today and i noticed that a tube was welded shut by my tranny

so i investigate....call out the girlfriend (doesnt like to get her hands dirty u know lol) and i find what i think the tube was connected to (air pump) and i get her to watch to see if it moves...and yea its the air pump

now i think that this might be a bad thing but should it be welded shut? if not where does it connect to?

second question

i located the EGR valve/canister thingy by the intake manifold ( 5.0L engine)

now iv heard mixed things about the egr...some people say take it off/ unplug it..get rid of it

others say its good for ur engine and emissions (there is no emissions in canada) and might...MIGHT (not sure about this) improve economy and power

so weigh in...whats the deal with the air pump...and what about that egr...

any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks for ur time!

The engine will run better & last longer if you keep EVERYTHING working right. It'll also be MUCH easier to maintain & diagnose.

. . .

Spend some time reading the Haynes manual &/or a Ford service disk.

Do you not know how to use Google? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garbage_In,_Garbage_Out

Don't expect me (or anyone else) to provide you any precise or perfect answers when you haven't provided enough useable info from YOUR end. But I already answered your last question; it's shown in the diagrams in my first post.

You are being ragged on because Steve posted detailed diagrams and you claim that he didn't help you. Did you even bother to click on his thumbnails?
