The 4.4 V8 diesel is marked for introduction in the F-150 in October 2009. Numbers will be close to 300HP and 450 Tq. It is being bolted to a new 6 speed auto. It will be a CGI engine which could put it in the Explorer lineup as well.

But, what if you could buy an F-150 with a 400HP/ 400Tq gas engine that rivals and maybe even beats the diesel for fuel economy. Would you be a player for a truck like that even if it was a naturally aspirated V6? And buy it at a considerably reduced price than the diesel? You wouldn't have expensive oil changes or smelly exhaust, you wouldn't have expensive air filters, oil filters, fuel filters, just the same maintenance of a current gas engine. So what do you think about that over a diesel?

I'll would rather have the gas engine hands down over the diesel if it was comparable in power!!!These big trucks need more power IMO.They upped the power with the 3valve but not enough to make up for the added weight of the new body style. They look great but just could use some help in the power department.I will keep my 2valve until Ford decides to do something about the power to weight ratio.

why in the world would you want a gas over a diesel hands down? i want a diesel so so bad... i love the way they sound... i love the trq the produce... and they live about 2-3 times longer then gas engines, they stay cooler then gas engine... you can leave a diesel running all day long in the heat and not worry about a thing...

when a diesel pulles up next to me i feel like a chump compared to that rorring thing..

Diesels are more effeciant and will run longer, I would take one over a gasser hands down. The maintenance costs are not that much different for what you get. My next truck will more than likely be a diesel, but it won't be an F-150 anyway, I am thinking either a 7.3L Super Duty or a older Dodge with a Cummins.

I'm not sure if the 1/2 ton front end could handle a 7.3 - that's my favorite - twin turbo

There in a class of there own - If you've ever been in one chipped , doin about 90 , just cruizin then step on it - wholy sh^t - those motors freakin move out , sounds like a DC-10 @ Take-off

BTW - At the time it had a leaky injector , but it didn't seem to bother it none..

Thats good because a diesel isn't good for everyone. Most peoples driving styles and routines aren't good for a diesel. A gasser is way more user friendly, convenient and cheaper to buy and run.

That's alright, you got me Patrick. I looked it up , my bad.

Hard to believe ONE turbo could move a 99 F350 4 door long bed dually so fast.
