Engine shut off on it's own while running???

I came to a stop at a red light the other week and my engine shut off. The check engine lights came on, I put it in park, shut off engine and restarted it. The truck started right up with no problems, check engine is no longer on. The other day the same thing happened, any comments?? Thanks.

Go to autozone and get the codes read then post them here. You have not included enough info to help. Was there a rough idle or noise. Help us help you!

You need to at least tell us what year your truck is. Other info like mileage, whether it is well maintained, etc... would also be nice.

Are there any mods on the truck, like a performance chip? My truck died one time when my chip wiggled loose.

Engine shuts off

The problem is your Idle Air Control (IAC) valve toward the back of your engine. I just replaced my Dec. 20. It cost me $55.00 at O'Reiley's Auto Parts.
Took about 30 minutes and thank goodness Ford puts the part number on the part. Online searching showed about 25 different IAC valve for Ford trucks. Make sure you get the right one.

96 F150 Engine shutting off

I have a 1996 F150 with 256,000+ miles. The other day I cranked the truck and put it in reverse and the engine died. The check engine light has been on the passed seven years and every other time it was an O2 sensor. This time the codes read P0401 & 411. I have already changed the IAC, and still the same problem. This happens in drive as well. When I get the truck to go into drive I have to tap the gas so it won't die on me. Once I'm going I'm fine, but when I have to stop the engine want to start stalling and I have to throw it up in the big N so the engine won't kill. Can anyone help?
