Best Oil Filter for 2006 5.4L

Well, it's a pretty simple question...

I have been running K&N oil filters for a while now with no problems; but tomorrow is oil-change day and I am considering something new. What oil filters are other members running in their 2004+ 5.4L?

Stick with Motorcraft Fl-820S. It has the antidrain back valve. Helps prevent dry startup.

I'm using a Mobil 1. Not necessary unless you are using synthetic oil and extended drain intervals.

Motorcraft is a VERY hard filter to bad mouth as it has an extremely excellent record and definately worth the price...But, with that said, if you ever compare it back to back with many other filters, the quality, construction, feel, and everything about it just seems extremely cheap in comparison. Compare it side by side to a Mobil 1 or Amsoil filter one time.

I can get a MotorCraft Filter FL-820-S at Walmart for $3.32! For the Performance/Cost quotient it just cannot be beat! I change my oil every 4-5K, & will NEVER go beyond that interval! The MotorCraft Filter is perfect for that interval, & makes the other "High Priced Filters" obsolete in terms of Cost/Performance period!.........Game Over!......

Suit yourself, but for the cost of a premium filter (the Mobil 1 is a double stage) you are getting finer filtration. That's the reason for these higher filtration filters - to allow the people who want to use synthetics and extended drain intervals *for whatever reason* to keep the overall contamination level of the oil lower longer. Like I already said, you don't *need* a premium filter, the Motorcraft is a quality filter designed for the factory semi-synthetic oil changed at recommended intervals. If I were using "standard" oil and changing it as per recommendations (which I am *NOT*, and this is MY choice), the only filters I would use would be a Motorcraft, Wix (NAPA Gold), or a premium Purolator.

If I still did my own oil changes, I'd be using 100% Amsoil products. I'm using Mobil 1 because I have a Mobil 1 Express Lube next town over that treats me well and does a good, honest job.

I use the Mobil 1 extended performace filter (and oil) and it seems to work very well.

As for Amsoil, it has been around for years with a strong reputation, but I have not seen their products in the stores (only online or from an Amsoil salesman). Does anyone know where to find Amsoil products at a storefront?

I have used the Napa "nascar select gold" as well. That is one nice filter, but for a $9+ price tag. I usually use the motorcraft, but sometimes they can be tricky to find without going to the dealer.

I run Fram's all the time, quit crying, they aren't all bad. Kidding, but seriously, I've never had a problem running any filter, of course, I don't know what is going on in my engine, everything SEEMS fine for having 200k km's. I've used Motorcraft the most, Fram's the other 30-40% of the time and other brands maybe 10%. Hell, there is probably only a few manufacturer's for 20 different filter brands out there so chances are 10 are exactly the same regardless.
