Talking Changing Engines In Ranger

Have A 87 Ranger Stx That Has A 2.9 In It. Just Purchased A 302 To Drop Ionto It. This Is A Family Project And It Could Take Some Time. Anybody Got Any Hints As To What Else I Might Need To Change To Make A Smooth Transition?

HI!... You will definitely have a easier time installing it if you use a engine plate instead of motor mounts. You will have to modify the heater blower housing due to the valve cover hits it. Electric fans are a must. A C-4 tranny fits in the trans tunnel without any modification. If you plan on running a true dual exhaust system then you will have to find or fabricate a "DUOBLE HUMP" trans cross member. If your running the 7.5 rearend then scrap it. It won;t take the power from the V-8 too long and will eventually break. Upgrade to a 8.8 or even better install a Ford 9 inch.

Here's a few pics of my Pro street Ranger with a 408 (stroked 351-W).
