The guy I got my truck from had a plug blow out and he took it to a dealer in Oregon and they replaced the long block , with labor and core exchange the receipt says $5521.68.... This was in 2004... $2200 of it was labor...

Go with someone local that you trust if you want a deal.

If you want to overpay big time, go to the Ford service department and bend over.

I don't know any prices off hand.

A competent private mechanic should be able to do it for 4,000.00-4,500.00!....

The labor to remove the enigine will be 15-20 hours, I think to remove mine Ford gets 17.8 hours, 34+ for a Removal, rebuild, and replace.

2.5 HRS to pull it. 3.5-4 to put it in depending on what has to be changed over and double check everything. $700-$1000. Just to pull it and replace it with another. Where are you located? I can't believe the labor hours you guy's are posting. I know there's some talented guy's on this board that could do it much faster. Are these from THE BOOK?

What I posted is book time, it's what you'll pay at the dealer.

Engine Swap

I just replaced the 5.4 Tritron in my 2004 Lariat, and paid $3100 for the rebuilt long block, and it cost $1600 to pull the old one and install the new. I will get $500 back when I return the bad engine.

I removed and replaced my engine myself but anything close to 1,200.00 would be a fair price and it also depends on how much unseen problems arise during the process
