This is devinmcnicol's wife...

So here's the story and the update...

Back in December we brought the truck in to Quality Ford in Tooele, UT. We had 2 injectors replaced and 1 spark plug that Ford would cover. When we got the truck back it was still running rough we then took it back and had to PAY for a tune up at the time the truck only had 75,000 miles on it. The machanic said it wouldn't need a tune up till 100,000 miles. Needless to say we were pissed we had to pay for a tune up so soon. Once that was done the truck really never ran the same but thinking all was well we drove 1225 miles to Oklahoma to visit my mom and sister. On the day we were to head home the truck started running rough, backfiring and smelled like it was burning up. We took it to several places thinking Ford wouldn't pay for it and we didn't want to pay alot because as we all know Ford is EXPENSIVE!! After went through an O2 senser and two starters we found out it was the fuel injectors again and we had to take it to Joe Cooper Ford in Oklahoma city (Thank God for them, if you need a truck or car fixed in OK stop there and talk to Mike or Jim-boe.) We have been told now that our engine is dead and we need a new one as my husband said. The machanic said that Quality didn't even do a half assed job that it was worse than that. When Quality replaced the fuel injectors they were suppose to replace all the o-rings and clips as well to prevent any more damage to the engine (they did not as we now know) We got the engine and head replaced and didn't even get out of the Joe Cooper parking lot when the truck started acting up again. Mike (the supervisor there) took the keys back and has had it since. They can't figure out what is going on with the truck now and has taken the moter back out of the truck and may have to replace the lower part of the engine again. Yes I said AGAIN!! This truck has Ford Motor Company stumped as to what could be wrong with it and the machanic still isn't sure what needs to be replaced on it. Luckly so far Ford has been paying for all of it. Now we are waiting till the 30th that's as long as they got and my husband flys back to get us ( by the way he flew home on thier dime so he could go back to work) if it's not fixed by then I don't know what we will do. Hopefully those of you who take your '05 f-150 in get everything that the warrenty covers replaced and don't leave till it does. I don't want any of you getting stuck someplace far from home like we did. I'll update yall as soon as we know more or have the answer. As far as I can see right now this whole warrenty extention thing and only replacing the broken ones at the time is stupid. What it is they are trying to cover up the whole thing and make it a silent recall. Maybe they'll figure it out before someone gets hurt or God forbid dies because they don't want to do a recall on the injectors.

The 2005 has been the worst engine I've heard about yet. It's not the truck or all engines. Just the one - The 5.4L 3 valve motors - Injectors/spark plugs problems. But neither you or your husband mention the engine. There is 3 different motors and I'm just guessing your referring to the 5.4L.

If I owned one of those - I would install one piece plugs and go with after market injectors.

That really sucks all the trouble you and your family has went thru. I hope the manufacturer makes it right, that has to be stressful.

Good Luck.

BTW- If you use the search bar in the engines forum, there's other threads posted on this issue and updated TSB's. Also , I believe there is extended warranty info posted on the 05 injectors from Ford somewhere - Search it out if your interested and again , Good Luck - I hope you'all make it back home soon!!
