I did the same procedure to get it to throw the code the first time- basically, from about 40 punch it to about 60 slowed down to flip a u'ey and then floor it back to 60. Thats the only way it'll actually throw the code, otherwise under normal driving conditions, as I said above under light accel in OD, it studders like no other and doesn't throw the code. I'm thinking about getting 1 COP and 1 injector when I get my new plugs. This way, when I swap out the new plugs, I can replace the "thought to be faulty" COP (now on cyl 1) and take it for a spin. If that doesn't cure it, I'm gonna replace the injector on CYL 3. - If replacing the COP fixes it, I'll return the injector.

Sound like a plan?
I can tell you've put some time into this - I remember going thru the same sh^t. Your on the right track and it sounds like you have good plan in mind. I think with the 3 valve, I would head for the plugs first. It could very well be that Coil you have in #1 now, but w/low grade misfires and no cell, it's a PITA.

For a quick fix , you can take your chances and purchase a new coil from the Zone and replace #1 - You might get lucky - but they are about $50 apiece local.

When I was at advanced auto parts, they only carried borg werner COP's which had to be ordered in. Anyone know how well they work?

Theres also a Napa in town and a zone, all of which are about the same distance from my house, so I might stop in there. Anyone know which brands they carry and how good they are?

Just talked to the local napa. As far as plugs go - they don't carry the motorcraft replacements - they only carry the autolites ht1's and ht15's (10.99ea) and the champion 7989's (19.99ea).

HT1's being the direct replacement for the PZT-1F which are currently in my motor
and TH15's being the replacement for the PZT-14F or PZT-2F (not sure which one) which is what I believe Ford now puts in the motors

I would like to go with just stock replacements for what ford now puts in the motor, but have heard that a lot of complaints about the autolites and am worried about using them to swap out.

Also, I told him about my misfire and he told me how common it was and that there was a guy in town that I can bring my truck to and that he can test the COP's and let me know if they're good/bad/weak so that I'm not throwing parts at my truck.

So what do you guys think about the autolites?

Put the Champions in. Those are one piece plugs. You can also find them for a lot less than 20 bucks, they are $12.87 at Rockauto.com.

If you are going to change the plugs yourself, make SURE you know what you are getting into.

If you want the Motorcrafts, the SP421's (PZT2F) are $8.58 at Rock.

Update?

Did you ever get this problem figured out? I know you had trouble with the broken plugs, I read that thread. Did the plug change fix the missfire problem?
