Wow, it took them over six hours to figure out how they were going to fix this? Any way how do I know if I have a Heritage? From the VIN or DOM? (Date of manufacture). The previous owner changed the front bumper to 2006 with the round fog lights so I can't tell from the bumper configuration. I would thing if they were going to Heli-Coil the plug they would have done that and finished it in one day. Or they are trying to soak the warranty company and then due the Heli-Coil. Lord, please not the Heli-Coil.
Sounds to me like you must have the new body F-150 if you have the bumper with the round fog light holes- which would indeed be from the "new body" '06.

Misfire

I used to have a misfire when I start the engine and the "service engine soon" lit up but when engine heats up everything goes well. I brought the f1 to Ford here in Manila, they had all sparkplugs replaced, then coil cap. The misfire was gone but after I used my truck after 40km the problem came back.
f1 owner told me about the sparkplugs popping out he even suggested the plug no. 3. I pressed all the spark plugs and disconnect the battery. At the moment everything is okay though every once in a while I pressed the plugs in. I am selling my f150 now.. Got so frustrated with it's durablity.

Yes, it is the new body style. Why do I see pictures of some 2004's with the rectangular fog lights. If I have a 2004 with round fog lights is that not stock. I thought the round headlights didn't come out until '06.

2004 4.6 Spark Plug Blow Out Repair

Helicoils don't work too well - Timesert is what you want. If it's warranty, I'd almost try pushing for a new head.
I'm suspicious because the repair shop didn't tell me which repair they were going to propose to the warranty company. I'm going to call them in the morning and find out. I assume that it is the head replacement, but I want to know.

Well the dealership called Monday and said that the warranty company had not processed the information from when the truck was bought three weeks ago and that it should be processed with-in the next 48 hours. I expressed that I wanted the head replaced and they said it was up to the warranty company. The dealership called Wednesday and said that the warranty company said that they had approved the heli-coil (I'm screwed). I picked the truck-up today. Seems to be running OK. I'm only out the $100 deductible but the thought of this happening again in the middle of nowhere has me scared, and pissed. I bought a new '86 cougar from ford and got screwed when a motor mount busted and they wouldn't fix that under warranty. They said it wasn't part of the drive train. What the h_ll holds the engine in? I swore off fords then. And now I'm telling myself "What the h_ll was thinking when I bought this F-150." Well I won't be burned three times I can tell you that. It's no wonder...

As a ford tech i can tell you right now that a heli coil is not a proper fix and there is no way they were told to do that by ford. under warranty it will get a new head... period. unless your extended warranty is not through ford which is possible. in that case most of those "extended warranty" companies will fix it the cheapest way possible

This shouldn't strand you anywhere. You can unplug the injector for that cylinder and drive. I drove mine 14 miles to get to the shop from my house. Sounded like a jackhammer, but it did it. Might not be the best thing for the motor, but your not left stranded.

You really don't need a new head but I would have told them to stick their helicoil and demanded a timesert be put in. It is approved by Ford where a helicoil is not. However helicoil does make a timesert like product in addition to there standard helicoil that is supposed to work well. I would talk to the tech who fixed your truck and see just what the hell was put in there.

Of course my Ford salesman has never heard of this problem and denies it exists.

Before I turn traitor and buy a Dodge, I would like to understand what is really going on?

Thanks guys!
This happened to a friend's 2003 F-250 FX4 gas engine. It cost him 2K to have the heads replaced.

You may want to contact this company and ask them what they think.

I have no involvement with the company.

Unhappy

So this problem is still around. I had this happen to my 97 XLT 5.4. Just sold my Ram and bought an 05 FX4. I thought I read that Ford had fixed this problem. I hope I don't have this problem all over again. Glad I got the extended warranty.
