its not, you'll need 2x4 lumber to support the engine after you unbolt the mounts, and jack it up.

 

Well I went back through everything I did and it looked good so I put that back together and proceeded to remove the oil pan I removed three bolts from each side of the engine from the motor mounts lifted the engine and put wood blocks between the engine and the motor mounts and I dont have enough clearance to remove the oil pan how do you get the oil pan off?

 

my dad had a 97 with a 4.2 he had the same problem but his was done at the dealer seems with the oil pump under the timing cover you need to prime the pump with some sort of grease or it wont pick up oil ended up scoring his cylinders and toasting the cam i would look into that asap good luck

i learned that in school just 2 days ago. your suppose to use a grease or vasoline. something that will melt under the engine heat.

 

you also have to drop the front differential, as well in order to gain the clearance you need...

 

There isn't a front differential and the cross member is welded to the frame.
So how do I prime the pump with grease.

 

the teacher said to pack the inside of the pump with vasoline or a grease that will melt quick. he said he prefers to use vasoline.

 

That makes sense I will try this today and let you know how it goes ofcourse I still have everything apart so it'll probably be tomorrow morning before I post again I still can't get the oil pan off but I will just reach in it and clean the bottom of it

 

sorry us haven't had a chance to post I couldn't work on the truck this weekend after work today I put the oil pan back on if all goes well I should have it together by Thursday or Friday hopefully

Well looks like I shouted victory too quick my wife drove the truck for a day and last night no oil pressure what do I do I;m seriously thinking of buying another vehicle

 

how many miles are on it now? how long did it work? what kind of oil filter do you have? does it knock? your pump may be no good.

 

there is about 140,00 miles on it it worked for that day after I put the new oil pump and packed it with the petroleum jelly its a fram filter and it isn't knocking yet but the oil pressure wont come up at all anymore

 

i think it may be the oil pressure sender. may be clogged and cant read the pressure. thats the only thing i can think of since its not knocking. i dont think fram is an anti-drain back filter so you may want to consider switching to motorcraft or wix or any top name brand with a anti-drainback filter. the filter makes sure that the oil pump stays primed so there isnt a dry start.
