02' 4.6 Screw

Ok, after an alignment, the tech. came out and said i was all set to go. Then he mentioned they didn't check my oil because the tech. couldn't find the dipstick.
So i get her home, pop the hood...and hmmm... i can't find it either!

Something tells me i'm in for a razzing on this one.

Bought used recently...so can't answer that. Any clue where the hell it is?

After 16 pages of search... I think i need to be looking for a wire guage now instead of the standard rod dipstick?

I easily saw the transmission dipstick on the left side of engine. I'm not seeing the oil dipstick. According to the manual, it should be on the drivers side. I see no dipstick of any sort there.
Yes, in my lengthy search, i saw mention of a wire loom type guage...and that's what i was thinking too..."wtf?"

I just don't get it...

Somebody enlighten me!

I won't have access to a digital camera till the wekend at best.

In my search readings, i also read 1 or 2 said the dipstick line had been busted at the point it enters the engine. Now i'm wondering if that is the case on mine and somebody just plugged it up

That could be possible.
So you have no dipstick OR dipstick tube?

So what are you suggesting? That it's broke off? That it's not and just hard to find? That it should be 1/2" open pipe?

I would think it should be easily accessable and typically a bright colored handle on the dipstick. I'm not seeing anything.

With a flashlight, and just the right angle...i can see the opening of about a 3/8 - 1/2" tube opening, but thats all, and its about half way back on the block and very low.

That should be the dipstick tube.
The dipstick dose have a bright yellow end on it,,,so if it was there,,,you would see it.
Maybe you just need a new dipstick.
Go to ford or a junk yard and get one for your truck. You'll need to know what motors in it.

Yeah, I've kinda come to that conclusion...it's not there and i need it...lol
Hopefully it doesn't run me an arm and a leg.

I guess it would just slip into the opening i can barely see and seat itself in? It just seems illogical to me this thing just sits there without some type of fastening mechanism. Seems even more odd that it is missing all together.
Thanks!

here's an engine oil dipstick on a 4.6 engine (there's a support bracket bolted to the head for stability)
