f150 rattling noise

hello guys, here is the thing, when driving and at idle., the engine runs okay......
When I tap the gas, or when I am like uphill or something and I put load on the engine and i tap gas to accelerate
sounds like ***** rattling in a spray paint can, I hear a lot of people saying that it could be the gas, even switching to a higher octane gas the truck still does the samething, I dont remember hearing that noise when new, but I had other cars that did the same noise..

has anyone else had this strange sound btw

I was using regular, then switch to mid, but I think I only fill the tank like two times with the mid... and samething.. or do I have to stay on the mid for a longer time?

If it's doing it on mid, try super premium. If it stops, then you know it's spark knock and you should keep using it till you can get it fixed, as spark knock can cause engine damage if it continues. Discuss this with your dealer while you are still on warranty.

thanks Glc, as soon as I get empty tank Ill do the premium, does the truck normally improves on the first fill up on premium or do I have to wait for a couple of gas tanks.

You should notice it within 5 minutes if you wait till the light comes on, then fill the tank.

If super premium shuts it up, run that tank down to the light and go get the cheapest 87 in town. Get it warmed up, verify that it pings, and ask the dealer to let a tech ride with you, go out with him and make it ping.

Rattling sound

My Ford truck rattled also...same symptons. I replaced my catalyic converters on my 2000 Ford F-150 5.4 Triton, and all is quiet!! I wish I had done it earlier. My truck had 150,000 miles when I did this, earlier this summer.

If it's the converters, high octane gas will not shut it up.

If it does go away with premium, it may need a good intake system cleaning, especially if you have been using offbrand gas. I'd still discuss it as a warranty issue with your dealer.
