????? mpg

a few questions about mpg. i have an '04 screw 5.4 and only get, on average, around 13-14 mpg. my foreman has an '03 screw and he claims he gets around 23 mpg hwy. he had mentioned something about changing out the o2 sensors. i think he said he changes his every 30,000 or so. would that really make a difference? i've changed the fuel filter, new plugs/wires, new air filter...she just guzzles it up. any thoughts on this? thanks.

If it's a 5.4L Supercrew, and he says it gets 23MPG, he's full of it.

People lie. 23 mpg is most likely one of them lies. I have a freind with a Chevy 1500 who claims he gets 25 on the freeway I'm sure he lies. Just because they say it dont make it true. Maybe one tim in ideal circumstances he got that but I bet it rare if it ever happened at all. My 99 extended cab gets 13-14 in the city and the best I've ever got on the freeway was 17. My truck pretty much runs perfect.

yeah, that's what i thought. he has a fipk installed, and he thinks the previous owner may have chipped it, but it still seems high to me. is 13-14 about right then?

Well I'm not confused and I know how to figure fuel mileage. My 04 SCrew with a 4.6, not a 5.4, get 22.5-24.5 hiway and has for the last 87,000 miles. I think that would be a long enough mileage run to state that yes, it can be done....at 65 mph or slower which is where I drive. But a 5.4, I've never heard of one getting that much. The best I remember offhand from a 5.4 is around 19 hiway. Figure 13-14 town. Maybe with a chip and easy driving he could possibly squeeze that much out of it but to do it on a regular basis would be a pain to do.

My XLT Screw, 5.4 with 3.55s would get 19.2 on the highway, running 75 to 85, but that was before I started modding. I have lost about 2 mpg with the added weight and the bigger wheels and tires.

thanks for the replies. i do tend to drive a little fast...i hate being passed. i guess i do drive a truck and not a prius. i'd rather pay for the extra fuel than drive a prius!

Yeah 23mpgs is a pipe dream. 13 is what it says on the window sticker though.
