Oh yeah, they're so dependable. Just look at how great your motor has been.

My 4.6 had less problems than my 7.3 has.

Well true... very true... but from my own prior experience, and other people's, they are very reliable.

But, reliability has a lot to do on the owner and the engine itself. There are so many factors involved, these days people should be happy to get 150k out of their engine with no problems.

Then again, my truck has never left me stranded, and still ran broken. Most, especially with broken cylinder rings will not even kick over or if they do, more damage would be done. The mechanics were even surprised, and that tells me that those 4.2's are pretty darn heavy duty engines.

Plus, you can't beat the fact that Ford sells it as an engine for emergency operations such as generators for hospitals, water pumps that helped in Katrina... etc. It's a good engine.

No, they're not being biased.

Given the chance to deal with Tritons that either reject your spark plugs or do not give them up easily, that's why I took a 4.2L.

Flashy? No. It does pass speed limits quite well, thanks a bunch.

Does everything I needed it to do.

In the even that I felt like tooling around under the hood, I can do so with the 4.2L and not regret it.

As for the point of a "Ranger sized engine" being put in a full-size truck, one could say the Ranger has no business needing two engines that get high teens (if that) for MPGs.

The 4.6 also doesn't have the same problems as the 5.4 does with spark plugs.

NO? So your telling me that the 3 we had eject in our 4.6 and another 2 that would come out were just bad luck? I really dont buy that, how does the size of the motor make any difference on how that system works? I think its more of that system than the motor. I bet if you ran COPs on a 4.2 it would have some of the same problems.

The issue where they seize up and snap off inside the block? Yeah that doesn't happen on the 4.6. The 2 valve 5.4 doesn't have this problem either, just the 3 valve. And what year and model was your 4.6 in?

He's talking about the 2 valve Tritons ejecting spark plugs, and YES the 4.6s had this problem, as well as the 5.4 and 6.8. All the 2 valves were vulnerable to that.

I haven't heard of any spark plug issues on this board with the 4.6. It's all been 3 valve 5.4's.

I have a 351W that will pull your house down. You V6 guys are nuts when it comes to pulling power.

The 2 valve engines were all prone to spark plug ejection. They may have fixed the 4.6 2v before the 04 models were released, I don't know, but I'm just saying, the 4.6s had the problem too. Just like all of the 3 valves have/ had the spark plug seizure issues.

They must have fixed the problem before they released the 04's. I usually stick to that section and haven't read any threads about the newer 4.6's ejecting plugs. They also fixed the 5.4 problem in 07(?). I hope the new 3 valve 4.6's aren't having any problems.

Yeah, you would think Ford would get the plugs redesigned as fast as they could on the 4.6 3v since it gets used in quite a few vehicles. But who knows. I would guess the new plug design in the 5.4 applied to all the 3valves.

it is a 2001 F150 4.6 so yes a 2V 4.6, I have never driven nor done engine work on anything 04+

And that has relevance why? Its funny when i make a list of engines a few post back and the 351 is in there then a tool comes in here and says this stupid comment. Im sure that 351 will out pull the 4.6. So your point being... Im sure my 5.9L will rip the axle out from under your 351 so whats the deal. So use your brain before making stupid posts.

and besides Manual150 turd boy whoever said that the 4.2 has extreme towing power?

i was trying to find that you beat me too it.

However im confident Ford has fixed all the issues in the 09 only time will tell.
