The only thing you need to do, to clean the MAF Sensor is disassemble the sensor from the air filter housing and with a "New" can of CRC Electronic's cleaner, use the nozzle straw that comes with the can and spray the 2 wires and what look to be, 2 tiny ceramic diodes. No need to use any Q-tips, fine brushes etc. Those wires are super fine !!! When I cleaned mine, it looked brand new when I was done. DO NOT use compressed air to blow it off. Let it air dry or you can use some computer "air-in-the-can" (it's low pressure air and clean). to dry it off. I state new can of CRC because you will want the new can pressure. You will have the best pressure from the can if you use it at room temp.
Having a clean MAF sensor allows the PMC to adjust for proper air/fuel ratio.
This is just 1 factor in adjusting your air/fuel ratio.

After I pulled the MAF sensor out of housing and cleaned it and then I found out what a pain in the butt it is to get that plug back on I thought why did'nt I just let it in there and spray it. Not to much room in there to get ur fingers in to push connector back together.Live and learn.

Link doesn't work -
Personally, I ALWAYS pull the sensor - I don't trust the spray and wait. Every MAF cleaner I've used left a residue. I carefully clean the wires by hand. Always worked the best for me and I NEVER busted a wire doing this.
However I don't suggest it unless you have steady hands, you CAN break a wire. I've bent mine a little before and from time to time. Pushed back into place. I've honestly never had a problem cleaning them this way. But you could if your not careful.
ALWAYS disconnect the battery before doing so.
If you haven't cleaned the MAF since 99, then I would say your going to notice a significant performance increase as well as an economy one. Some have reported a night and day difference in doing so.
They do make a MAF cleaner -
But I've used Windex before and got her squeaky clean. The very best = 91% Alcohol from the pharmacy or Paint prep (Wax & Grease remover).

As long as your using the new format - Second URL below is the full pic/ first is a thumbnail.
If you have been here over 6 months or have an older gallery - It's a little different. Let me know and I'll explain how that one works.
