460 swap into 2000 F150?

My brother has a 2000 Ford F150 with a 5.4 liter engine. I forget what transmission but it is an automatic. 4wd. He doesn't drive it anymore due to bad tranny and engine. He wants to pull it out and put in a 460 with a C6 behind it.

How feasible is this? Will there be a lot of fab work needed? What about all the wiring? Aside from a 460 and a C6 tranny how much do you think it will cost, all the work being done himself.

Thanks.

carbed or fuel injected 460? there will be alot of fabrication needed either way. motor mounts, exhaust, trans mount, drive shaft(s), transfer case if 4x4, and i dont know how well the rear diff will hold up with a 460, need new computer for engine(if efi), and complete wire harness, need all the linkage for engine and tranny, induction system for the 460. theres more things that'll need to be changed, its not worth it to me.

eh... i would personally perform the L swap with a built 5.4 longblock and swap in a built 4WD 4R100. Plenty of power there, and probably better fuel mileage too.

fuel economy/more power is not really a concern. Just a project he thinks will be fun, and different. Time doesn't matter either.

How much do you think he will be looking at price wise?

cost wise wont be too bad for the most part. it all depends on where he gets the parts and what kinds of deals. he may get away with between 5-8 grand in parts but then he'll have to make it all work.

If a metal fabricator who is also ok with gutting the entire dash and rebuilding it. Simple swap..

I agree with the lightning swap but what's wrong with a built 4r75 in place of the 4r70 he currently has and same himself some hassle

Is it feasible? By definition, yes. Many people confuse feasible with practical. To add to what was already posted; The 460 and C6 will fit in the hole. Engine and transmission mounts will be the hardest part. If you are staying 4x4 you will need a t-case too. Custom driveshafts. How do you want to control the engine? A PCM from a late 90s truck should work. Wire harness, custom instrument panel. The 9.75 differential will hold a lot more power than the stock 460 can make. Cost will depend on how much your brother can do for himself. Unfortunately there is no check list to follow so you will need to make one and fix things as they come up.

im in the process right now doing the swap. just havent gotten to do it yet. im going efi not carbed carbs mess up too much in the mud in my opinion. best thing to do is buy a donar vehicle. mine was $2000 running so i figure $1000 for any materials for the fabin. depends on how much stuff you can accomplish yourself
