Oil Change

I was going to change mine today and a friend told me not to bcz I might F my warranty.

Is this true?
I hope not bcz I have already changed my oil twice since I bought the pickup last fall.

Thanks in advance.

yes you will... that is if you're not a certified mechanic... you have to wait for the warranty to expire on the truck before you do it youself... I just wouldn't volunteer the information to the dealer that you changed the oil - just take it to them or a certified mechanic to do it next time - don't worry about it.

No, doing your own oil changes will not void your warranty, but I'd advise you to keep the receipts for the oil and filters showing brand and grade, and keep a written record of the date and mileage every time you change it.

What GLC said is absolutely true. They cannot void your warrantee for you doing your own maintenance...but you need to keep good records w/receipts for the stuff you use in that maintenance. In the warrantee book for my wife's Camry, it specifically states that they cannot deny warrantee claims for owner maintenance of any kind. Accurate record keeping is a must. They DID NOT state that a particular dealer can't be a t#@d and give you a bad time about it. Any dealer worth his salt won't blink an eye as long as you have accurate records backed by receipts for what you've done.

Go ahead. Change your oil. Rotate your tires. Top off your fluids. Do whatever type of maintenance that you want. Just be sure to keep records and reciepts. Get a notebook and write down the date and mileage for whatever it is that you did on your own or service that you had any shop perform. You can also set up an account at flmowner.com and keep all of your records online.
