4.6 police interceptor

my buddy's uncle has a wreck yard and a impound yard so they got there hands on a 4.6 police interceptor engine and he asked me if i wanted it because he knows I'm a ford guy. so i just might get it off him for doing some labor work at his impound yard but i was wounder whats so special about the 4.6 police inter engines?? whats done to them and whats the hp/lb ratings? do you guys thing its worth it and what kinda of upgrades are available for them he said its a 2003 engine if i remember correctly could be wrong but i it know its a early 2000. looks really clean i was thinking about building a 351w but i just might do this one up instead seen how it run and everything. any input is welcome no hurry because hes saving it for me.
Thanks
Mike

are you sure it's not Power Improved?????

P.S. police intercepter package didn't have anymore power, just a better oil cooling system and high output alternator and if it were in a cop car then it's got probably triple the wear due to the extended idling time

Mike- tarajerame is correct- nothing special about a police interceptor engine at all. Although I don't think a very high percentage of them idle like people think they do, unless they're in the big city. They do get floorboarded a little more that grandma's CV though. It's good for a laugh though next time someone tells you he has a Police Interceptor engine in his car or truck and it's really hot. You can ask him if the thermostat is stuck.

unless it's a 4 valve you'll need of these to get the additional horsepower

I remember back in the day a crazy buddy of mine got ahold of an ex new york state police cruiser. Plymouth fury with the interceptor 440. That car was pure scary to ride in. The new police package is really nothing to do with making the engine faster. Bigger radiator brakes power stearing cooler stuff like that.

the lincoln navigators had the 32 valve intech 5.4, one of the guys on here just swapped to one from a 4.6 and he just got his procharger back on it

some of the cobra mustangs had the 32 valve 4.6 in n/a and the '03-'04 terminator cobras had the factory supercharger and forged internals

The Aussie's took the Cleveland to some extremes the US market never saw they didnt put in pollution controls that killed the Cleveland here. US market killed the cleveland in 74 it was built until 82 down there..

Up here the difference isn't the motor, besides what has been said above which is true. The Police interceptors actually have a different ECU program than a "civilian" car. High top speeds, better shifting, and some other do dad techy stuff lol. Not anything special per say but at the same time still a reason the cop car is faster than the stock ones.

Basically, buy it for pennies and sell it to a noob that knows nothing about engines.

That's all just in the flashing of the PCM. I worked on 'em, drove plenty of 'em, except for having the limiter removed and therefore faster top speed, the engine is no different from grandma's CV. Now the '94-'96 Caprice, that was a different story! That thing could get you in trouble.
