Hey guys. I finally decided to stay out of the woods today and do some work on my truck. First up was spark plugs. The previous owner stated that they "were changed at the beginning of last year." So I'm assuming Jan/Feb 2008. But you know what happens when you assume. So here is the first plug on the drivers side. What do ya'll think? Gap is in spec at .053---DirtySCREW

 

They don't look too bad to me but if you are going to pull them all and clean them up and check the gap why not just put in a fresh set.

here is the Front passenger. What do you guys think?? I have MCs here at the house, but I was thinking of taking them back and getting Denso Iridiums. Should I just go ahead and do a plug job?--DirtySCREW

 

id go ahead since youve got plugs already and took the stinkin things out.

 

also...what the BEST way to do the plug job...pull one, put a new plug in...go to next bank?? OR pull all on drivers side, then put new all in on drivers side....when complete do passenger side???---DirtySCREW

 

i do them one at a time, because im use to changing plugs with wires. i start on the passenger side at the front and work my way back, then do the drivers side.

 

they look fairly new, since the tip still has a cone shape to it

I'd stick with motorcraft plugs but thats just me

 

For the 97-03's stick with Motorcraft plugs. Most people that have tried others end up with problems.

I always do one at a time. I don't like to leave the plug hole open too long as I will find a way to drop something down there.

Don't use anti-seize on the threads. Put them in dry. Factory torque is 12-16 foot pounds. I used 14 but a lot of guys are recomending the blownoutsparkplug.com torque of 28 foot pounds. I haven't done that to mine yet so that is your call. Remember to put dielectric grease in the COP boots.

 

so the Denso IR won't do crap for better mileage???? I just know my Yukon HAD iridiums....I was just thinking the IRs would help---DirtySCREW

 

oh, I also found a hose...goes to some electrical connector (has 2 hoses on the bottom) and looks like it goes to the fuel rail. One hose has a crack in it. Would a vaccum leak cause bad MPGs? I gotta take a pic so ya'll will know what I'm refering to and also if I need a special grade hose...Be right back---DirtySCREW

 

The right side hose has a crack in it near the top but below the nipple from the electrical connector. I don't know if this may be affecting anything. What is it??--DirtySCREW

 

evaps purge solenoid? Idk i'd have to see where the lines come and go....

 

scratch the fuel rail comment---I just saw silver lines and ASSUMED...


It actually goes to a larger metal tube that looks like it dumps into the exhaust manifold. The top part goes up (that Rusty thing) with the green wire on top---DirtySCREW

 

that is the dpfe sensor and the lines are connected to the egr tube. is your service engine soon light on?.
