going to get a 5.4 out of the junk yard this weekend. was wondering how to tell the difference between the 4.6 and 5.4 if the throttle body cover is gone? was lookin on the door stickers today and didnt find anything? also when i do pull it is there anything that i need to make sure i take (other than the obvious) ?

oh and i currently have the 4.6 in my truck
Has a bad tick . was gunna run it till it went if it does while i build up the 5.4 a lil or would a 4.6 build better than a 5.4?

 

bad tick?? could be a exhaust mainfold leak.

 

Could be an injector as well.

You could measure the span/ top of the block. The 5four is a little wider, around an inch I believe.

All 5.4L's run a larger bodied EGR valve. Most 4.6L's have the IAC mounted on the passenger side of the TB. 5fours are mounted in the back by the firewall.

 

i believe there is a sticker on the drivers valve cover that will tell
