I replaced the O2 sensors, no difference. Did an R&R on the EGR, cleaned the ports, valve
and Throttle Body. I wanted to do a vacuum check to see if the Cats are working, but I couldn't find a port to hook up to. There are no spare vacuum ports on the manifold. So far, nothing I do seems to help. I also contacted the guy who runs Global Automotive in Miami. What a jackass! There is NO WAY that I would buy coils from that idiot! He actually accused me of trying to interfere with his "Business", simply because I asked about his warranty procedures, and the stability of his business. What good is a lifetime warranty if the place goes under? His prices may be cheap, but I'll bet the coils are too.

I still have my first set of coils I purchased from global back in 2004; -on the shelf. I updated since then, for the heck of it, but there's nothing wrong with that first set, - never a problem.
Btw - Same truck = 98 4x4 5.4L E4OD. I get 16 mpg, city and highway. But I cruise @ 79 mph 2200 rpm.

Have you tried resetting the computer and let it 're-learn' again?
Are you sure your speedo/odo is correct? I've got 265/75/16 tires, but it was setup for 255/70/16 tires and I had to get a new VSS gear to get the speedo/odo close to actual... (It's still just a tad slower then actual).
I tow a #5000 TT and I'm making the engine work pretty hard... The computer will try to adjust for optimal operation under these conditions and the benefit of that is when you are running empty, the computer is 'tuned' for running harder and it's been my experience that it runs better in everyday driving....
I've got over 212,000 miles on my truck with only a plug change, but that was done about 145,000 or so miles ago... Same O2's, same COPS, same everything.. I do have a new (6 years old now) IAC and I get an overall average of 15-16 mpgs as a daily driver. Towing I drop down to 8-10 mpgs.
If you aren't throwing any codes, then it makes it difficult, as you already know!
Good luck!

A couple of 'tips' on the reset...
When you first start up after resetting, don't touch the gas pedal AT ALL for the next couple of minutes... The rpms may rise and fall initially, but that's normal.. You have to let the comp find it's idle rpm. During this time, you can be resetting your radio and clock settings, because you have lost them when you disconnected the battery!
After it's back to a steady idle, then take it out for a drive. You want to drive it around town and then take it for a spin on the hwy. While you are doing this, run it harder then you normally drive it... Don't speed or do anything to get you pulled over, but give it more pedal then you normally do. On the hwy, get up to speed, slow down and then 'punch it' making it downshift and get back up to speed... Do some runs where you turn OD off and just let it run in third gear... Again, don't go crazy to attract the attention of a cop, but don't be looking to save any mpgs during this time!!
If you can attach any kind of trailer or put a load in the bed, that would be even better..
It'll take several run 'cycles' to get the computer optimized. Hopefully, it works for you as well as it's worked for me..

To Optimize tranny after zapping parameters (reboot) -
1. Bring the vehicle to a stop. Idle with transmission in drive for 2 minutes. ~ Executes the ISC portion of the CCM.
2. From a stop and in overdrive, moderately accelerate to 50 MPH and cruise for at least 15 seconds. ~ Executes the transmission portion of the CCM.
Stop vehicle and repeat without overdrive to 64 Km/h (40 MPH) cruising for at least 30 seconds. While at 64 Km/h (40 MPH) , activate overdrive and accelerate to 80 Km/h (50 MPH) and cruise for at least 15 seconds. Stop for at least 20 seconds and repeat this step (2.) five times.
