EGR valves rarely fail or need service.

He might want to revisit his diagnosis.

In a 4.6 if you are getting and EGR insufficient flow code. It is usually either a vacuum leak, the dpfe, a broken line to the dpfe, or stopped up port in the intake manifold.
As posted above, the valve itself rarely goes bad.

Mann, It's been quite awhile since I've seen an EGR question. Granted, the search bar on this site will answer just about, -if not all of those questions. Quick!

Yea, it's usually never a EGR valve issue, however you can test it. - Look up "Suck Test" in the engines forum. That will test - Diaphragm/Egr Valve Operation.

Once you figure out it's good, -give us the DTC fault code your buddy has and we can give you a hand w/ real problem. Give us the #'s tho, like PO401/P0402

I figured that an EGR problem meant that the EGR valve needed to be replaced or cleaned, so i took it off last week and tried cleaning it. There was some carbon buildup in there but nothing too excessive.

Did you even read the post you quoted ? That's how you test the valve. Not sure what your trying to say. You need to post codes (DTC's) if you want help.

you guys where RIGHT on the money got the P0402 code a few days ago, as per your request checked the lines on the DPFE sensor and one of the lines had 2 cracks on them, also took off the DPFE and the whole where the lines connet to where almost sealed off with CARBON build up, cleaned them out and had to order new lines from the dealer should get them 10/7, in the mean time i taped off the cracked area and the truck in running great with no CEL. (love this site for all the help from others).
