driver side not firing

I am working on a 2004 F150 4x4 crew cab with a 5.4L. It starts and runs rough and the it seems to not be firing at all on the driver side(pulled each connector on the cops and it made no difference) When i pull the connectors on the passenger side coils the engine boggs down and sometimes dies. Also, the computer will not communicate with my scanner(it says error and to check connections). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check the cigarette lighter fuse, that protects the OBD2 port.

That was the first thing that I found wrong because my scanner wouldn't power up at all. I replaced the fuse and got power to the scanner but it won't communicate to the scanner. Are the two problems related or just coincidence? I have heard that timing can be an issue but that doesn't make much sense to me since the whole driver side bank is not firing. I'm leaning towards it being "brain dead" and needing a computer. Am I way off?

Today I took the driver side plugs out of this vehicle and every one spins out the threads and the inner cores are seized in the heads. With the threaded sleeves out there should be nothing holding them in so this is quite the head scratcher. I'm in the process of removing the heads to find out why but I just wanted to know if anybody else has seen this before.

Yes, Don't remove the cyl heads yet. Its the dreaded 3v sparkplug issue. Excessive carbon has bonded the lower electrode shield to the sparkplug bore in the cyl head. There is a tool that works very well at removing these broken shields without removing the cyl heads. http://www.revivalogistics.com/docum...28-59%20AM.pdf and the tool is a Lisle 65600....http://www.denlorstools.com/home/dt1...p_sellers.html

You MUST be joking !! PLEASE, PLEASE do a search on 5.4L plugs. It will take you longer to read up on this subject then to pull the head off. The 'Lisle' tool will be your best friend !!

monkeyknuckles - Listen to what these guys are telling you. Or , -you may be pulling your hair out of your head vs scratching it.

Thanks everybody! I got the tool and the truck is purring like a kitten. Sorry if my question was an obvious one for a ford guy. I'm a GM tech and I hadn't seen this one before(thus why I thought it would be smart to ask Ford guys). This page is great and I'm sure I will be back in the future with more Ford specific questions. Thanks again!
