1980 ford f150 timing issues
#1
#4
What do you mean "it wont stay timed"??? Tighten the distributor clamp bolt, and the timing shouldn't change.
If it's tight, and the timing mark moves slowly during the timing process (follow the instructions on the VECI label under the hood) but the engine continues to idle without change, then the harmonic balancer outer ring may be slipping on the hub. Pull the #1 plug, use a plastic drinking straw to verify TDC, and then see where the mark is in relation to the scale.
If it jumps & the engine stalls suddenly, then the timing chain may be stretched out, and hopping teeth.
