Which spark plug to use?

Hey All,

Need some advice on what plugs to use. OEM or what? This would be for '06 5.4 Ltr F-150 Lariat Super Crew Cab. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Gene

You're going to start another fight!

Did you try using the Advanced Search? Put in Spark plug and Sparkplug. See if some threads come up on the subject.

There are several plugs available but I am one that believes in the Motorcraft. I don't think you can get a plug that will perform any better and some will not last near as long. Though I don't recommend doing it, several have posted that they have gone well over 100,000 on the original plugs. I changed mine at 65,500 and have about 48,000 on the second set. If you follow the TSB and coat the shank with nickle antisieze, there should not be the question of the second set coming out in one piece.

Incidentally, I had none of the originals break and there are many on this site that did likewise. If any break, the Lisle tool is available and gets the broken shank out.

That is my opinion and you will hear many other opinions. You will just have to decide for yourself.

I'm running the '02 5.4L Lariat SCrew. Hubby just changed the plugs. He put in Autolite Iridium. No complaints at this point. Engine had 143,00 on it when we bought it and by the looks of the Motorcraft plugs that came out, I think they were the original plugs. Have to say Motorcraft seems to have a long life.

Autolite Iridium!
For me it's the best plug for the two valve!

That's nice, folks - but the original poster has a 3 valve.

My dad just put Champion's in my mom's 06 Explorer 3v 4.6, same deal, broke the old ones. The Champ's are a 1 piece and were A LOT of money though. My bro is about to change his on both 08 F-150's, scared ++++less to do it He only has less than 50k km's on either one so they should be ok to get out. I forget if he is gonna use Champion's too, almost positive he is so something to check out.

I put Champions in 20,000 miles ago and the truck still runs great. I feel good about the decision as I don't have to worry about breakage in the future. Just another option to consider.

Don't turn up your nose at the E3's (E3.70). Seems these are turning out to be pretty good also..I have 6000 mi on mine and not a hiccup at all..and one piece plug as the Champions to boot.
