The better injector cleaners are either stoddard solvent based or a POE. BG 44 has both in the mix but is not near as concentrated as it once was. Gumout with REGANE, REGANE being a POE, is about the best for the least amount of money. Techron is stoddard solvent based. Most of the cleaners on the shelf or either an alcohol of some kind or a naptha of some kind. Both are great solvents when used as a solvent but it doesn't do much as a system cleaner. Ethanol, for instance, is a tremendous solvent but it creates as many issues or more than it fixes.

Hey Labnerd,
Would it be just as effective or better to run a tank of E85 periodically or even the 10% EtOH (assuming you have the flex fuel engine)? ... or would it be more beneficial to run the Techron, BG44 or Gumout?
I have read that this will help with the dreaded plug change in the future too.

I've not seen any test data to support that claim but I doubt it. Here's the deal on E85, it has a high octane rating and as such is hard to ignite. So the flame front will be slow to form. Now if you had a high compression engine, like 12:1 or more, you could really get some serious power out of E85....but you don't have that. The probabilities are a lot higher that because of the resistance of the fuel to ignite, most likely carbon deposits will form which is the opposite of what you want. But again, I've not seen any testing in that regard and that's a gut assessment of the situation. But if you knew you had a steady supply of E85 and were building an engine, I'd push the compression up to take advantage of the octane rating of E85 and watch the competition disappear in the rear view. Problem with E85 is that we don't have engines to take advantage of the fuel capabilities.

one of my teachers from an autos class used to do engine dynos and they ran every kind of fuel cleaner on injectors into a beaker none of them made a diff. however. Techron by chevron did!!! the injector with just gas fired 50ML then they added techron and the 1st shot after adding techron made it shoot 65ML and after that it just kept getting cleaner and cleaner.
Its the only stuff i use autozone has them 10$ for 2 alot of times.
