Chk Engine Light
#47
Thing is,- Ford changed the V8's Throttle Body as of 2004. So your 05 has a different system all together. The "Drive By Wire", -motorized TB set up and if I recall, you don't have an IAC on that model.
So some of the posts and links are going to confuse the hell out you. Since they pretty much don't apply.
I might ask to delete this entire thread and start over, -if it were me. Either start fresh in the 2004 + forum or the engine forum. Up to you.
You don't have to uknow, if you have an understanding.
Just an idear..

Ask a mod to move this thread to the V8 or 2004-2008 forum.

Check Engine Light
I have an 05 XLT 4.6 V8 that has a chk engine light on. I went to Autozone & had it plugged in & it gave a code of P0401. My mechanic eventually took off the egr valve cleaned it out & reset the computer. The following day withing 2 mins of driving it came back on. Today I went back to Autozone & had it scanned again same code P0401. Any ideas? THat code is very generic & covers a multitude of "sins" so how can I find out what the problem really is?

I would go for the ports first. All it will cost is a gasket (9L437). That's a compression gasket. You can try re-using the old one if you choose, I don't , not that one anyway.

Your EGR valve is different on top, - not sure what that's all about. (?) If you decide to clean that in any way, be very careful of the diaphragm inside the saucer. No compressed air or chemicals can contact. Max vacuum is 16 hg's and it won't take much more than that.

If you want to perform a running DPFE Multi-Meter test. I made a vid of it's proper operation upon acceleration, here -
