Prowler,

Yes, I remember them. Checker vehicles made the best cabs. They were HUGE in the back. Easy to get in and out of and had room to dump stuff in front of your feet! Did you know the drive train was Chevy?

I'll say it again, longevity depends on maintenance and duty cycle. If my commute was 120 miles a day instead of 2, my Triton engine would probably last closer to 200k miles. As it is, I'll be damned lucky to get 75k miles.

hmustang, dont get me wrong I am a real Ford fan, but I must go to Chevy defense on some of their engines. My son had a 1990 C1500 with a 305 v8 auto. It was just one of thoes vehicles that never seem to quit. We finaly sold it with 182,000 miles on it and it ran wonderful. It was used daily on trips, towing trailers work etc. We entered it in the Meridian High school drags and it ran pretty good for a stock pick up. Best time 17.5 @ 86mph. Just some info.

97 F-150 4.6 auto, 4x2, 3.55 LS, trailer tow pkg, ABM with K&N, Dynomax Super Turbo exhaust.
Oh yeah, it's Oxford White with crome wheels, Legacy shell & custom grill.

Yes at work there was a 97 f150 with a 4.6 v8 auto 4x4 that was used as a shop truck (did all kinds of things) last reading was 78,000 miles and it ran like a scalded cat! The shop manager said he loved the way it ran & hated to see it go. They only keep them so long so it was sold.

Cool

let them warm up a few minutes beofre running them hard. this goes for all engines. basic awarenes and maint and a little luck will get 200k out of any motor that is decently designed. When picking an engine remember, if they only made it one year and scrapped it then it was too expensive to work on or a crappy design. The tritons are still being made en mass that should tell you something.

------------------
97' F150 XLT, 4 X 4, Auto,4.6L, Vortech Supercharger, jet-chip, Gibson Cat-back Duals, rear Posi, 4.10's, jet shift improver,

and musty smelling A/C system

Thumbs up

True Enough RedRyder, I had a Toyota 87 standard 22r with 202,000 miles on it when I sold it for $500. I ran Mobil 1 from day one (actually first oil change). I was in the engine at 150,000 and there was no discernible wear on the cam.

2001 F 150 Super Crew loaded. 5.4 Triton. Drove it off the showroom floor. 202,000 miles still purring like a kitten. Replaced Battery, all wheel bearings. Not another single blessed thing. Best vehicle I have ever owned. Nothing, nothing will get me out of that 5.4 power plant. Will buy another if this thing ever breaks down. Dog is Man's Best Friend ? Well....the little mutt has competition.

It would have to be old, considering the subject! The question is, can the Tritons outlast the thread?

I have a 2005 150 with a 5.4 3v, has 195,000 miles on it now and runs like a champ. Recently replaced the COPs (1 had a misfire), injectors, 3rd or 4th plug change (1 broke on the last change, and was first time 1 had broken) new true duel w/ high flow cats. Unfortunately 2nd gear is giving out on the trans and it is now time for it to be rebuilt, but all in all it's been a great truck.

Wow, I just noticed the date on this thread. I wonder if Bent6 still has his truck and how many miles are on it if it's still alive

I think this thread deserves a award of some kind. I have seen many old revivals here and there, but 12 yrs takes the cake.
