Not to be a pessimist, but with that many miles between oil changes you would have to think the sludge in that engine is holding it together or we are wasting money every 3-5k miles! However, 1.29 million miles is a HUGE accomplishment. I also liked how the trip meter backed up the odometer readings. If and when that engine gives it up, I'd like to see the teardown.

I have a 98 F150 XLT Triton with a 4.6 romeo. Bought used with 52,800 on the odometer. Drove until 270,000 before I had any trouble with engine. I was 15 when I got it, so the first 100,000 was HARD! Not until I started paying for it did I really take care of it (driving wise). I always changed the oil religiously!

I bought my 98 F-150 XLT SuperCab 2wd brand new in May of 98. It has a 4.6 with auto. The only thing I've replaced on the truck was an alternator, battery (Optima Red top) and a fuel pump just within the last year. Nothing major replaced. Besides the regular maintenance such as tuneups, oil changes, tranny fluid changes, brakes, etc, etc... I put on 290700 miles as of yesterday. Tomorrow, I'm trading my baby in for a 2011 SCREW 4 x 4 with a 5.0. It still runs strong and it doesn't owe me a single penny. It just goes to show that basic maintenance will go a long way and its not only the foreign vehicles that can last a long time!!! Fords rule!!!!

Ha! I'm still around, and so is my truck. It has 333,000 miles on it. I've done an alternator, starter (2months ago), u-joints, shocks, ball joints, a tierod end, replaced the slider window, charged the AC and adjusted the AC clutch gap, one rear wheel cylinder, one swaybar endlink, both swaybar bushings, both front calipers, and bearings in the diff. Other than that, just normal maint. has kept it running. It has a rustout on the right rear bedside, and the left cab corner is bubbly with rust, but that's about it.

Really it still looks and drives great. It has been a great truck. I just drove it about 100 miles to cut down a Christmas tree last week, and it got 20 mpg on the interstate. It hasn't been my daily driver for about 2 years. My wife let me get a '05 CTS-V, so mostly I drive that. I think I'm going to start driving the truck to work once every week or two, because sitting is screwing up the brakes. I really would rather have a 4wd for an extra vehicle, but my truck's worth what $1000, and I still do like it. I'll probably just keep it and spend the $200 for patch panels to make it look nice again.

It finally gave it up. The oil pump failed. U-tube has the updated.

He put in a quart of oil per week to offset the consumption ( and/or leaks)

That's 52 quarts per year or the equivalent of an oil change every 6 weeks.

I'm guessing he didnt or couldn't burn that much oil: For one, he would be crop dusting with that much consumption. And the ODII cats couldn't take it as well.

Sounds about like mine, but I'm only at 220k! In fact, the only thing that I haven't done that you did was the window and the rear wheel cylinder. I'm struggling with a vibration right now that has me stumped...

Wow, good to see your still on here and that you still have the truck and it's running strong for you. Thanks for responding, wasn't sure if you were going to see this or not.

97 F150 4x4 with 4.6, 246,000 and counting, it gets run from Abingdon VA to Raleigh NC every weekend, live in NC, work in VA, averaging 750 miles a week with a 4 hr 70 / 80 mph cruise every weekend.
Uses a quart of oil every 3000k miles, not bad considering the extended interstate cruising, tranny rebuild at 212,000, one starter & alternator, both front wheel brg units, one went bad and changed both, just did shocks last month.
Rear drum brakes are CRAP, numerous changes, still looks great, still enjoy driving, no rattles!!! Going for an easy 300,000, did I mention engine is still day one quite?
