Question 1987 fuel or ignition prob?

Engine turns over but won't start. Seems like it's not getting fuel but there's 3/4 of a tank. Any ideas? It's a 6 cyl with dual tanks.

Have you checked your fuel pumps. I believe with those duel tanks, there are pumps in the tanks.

Check for spark - if they are firing my guess would be fuel pump(s). My record with them is, 89 Bronco - replaced fuel pump / 88 Turbocoupe - replaced fuel pump / 90 LX 5.0 - replaced fuel pump. I also did heater cores in the bird and the stang. My opinion on earlier than 90 Fords is the factory fuel pumps and heater cores are garbage.

Ferzees: Realize that there is 3 fuel tanks on your truck. Two Lower Pressure's in the tank and a high-velocity on the frame rail. I would have someone check pressure on the pump first.

May be the fuel pump I had a 87 Exp that done what your truck is doing and I even tried push starting it since it was a 5 speed had it towed to the dealership to have the fuel pump replaced the only time I ever had any trouble out of a ford.

Try and start it for a couple of seconds. Pull out a spark plug. If it's wet, you've got fuel, check for spark. If it's dry, try switching tanks and see if the problem goes away. It's unlikely that all your pumps would crap out at the same time. Did you check your roll over switch ???
Take care,

Hold on a minute!!! Sounds to me like the ignition module is bad. Have an 87F-150 and have replaced a couple in my times.
Take it out and have it tested.

I had this problem on my 87 and it turned out to be the connection to the fuel cutoff inertia switch located on the firewall behind the brake petal.

A quick way of testing is to turn on the key and listen for the fuel pump to hum. If it doesn't hum, that might be the problem.

Good luck!
