Question OIL (again)

OK - some of you "older" visitors of this site might have had a lot of disscusion re "proper oil" - being a newbie - I havent seen them all. I just looked at the Mustang Site,& the tech paper. It seems to claim that Mobil 1 is about the best, taking price, avalability & preformance into consideration.
Assuming this is correct, what would be a good change interval?, surley NOT 25,000 mi.
I have always used good? oil - Valv., Castrol, or in my present 4.6 Pennzoil 5W-30, as recommended & changed at 5000K (3000mi).
My impression has been - A good Pennsylvania base Q/S, or Pennz. was parrifin (wax) base, while all, or most were ashphaltic (tar) base.
Syn'tics seem to alter this - thats OK. i guess I can understand modern technoligy & all that crap. I still would like to know an accepted changeing interval that would not void the warranty.
I also realize - driving habits, climate, tow or no tow, ETC.
Anyone got some ideas.
THANKS for putting up with us NEWBIES.

Just because you are a "newbie" doesn't mean you can't post in these older topics.
They automatically go back to page one when someone posts in them.
Also there is a search function at the top for looking up the old posts.

roadrunner: I'm using Mobil 1, I think the added protection is worth the extra $. The Mobil 1 poeple say to go with the manufacturers longest change interval. Check in your owners manual. I think it is 5,000 miles. I change mine every 4,000. Good luck!

I am changing Mobil-1, 5-30 every 8k miles with a filter change and top off at 4k, with my '97-5.4. I used Mobil 1 5-30 from the start on a 4.9l '90 F-150 changing oil at 12k with a filter change and oil top off at 6k. Removing the head at 76k miles to check a possible gasket problem, (there wasn't) showed the engine to be clean with no sludge or buildup up any kind. The engine used no oil during the 6k intervals during that 76k of driving. I have used Mobil-1 in all my vehicles since it has been introduced, with no engine probs or oil usage. I've talked to them several times on their 800 number about extended use since they have taken the 25k oil change off their packaging and in every time but one, they say to stay with the manufacturers recommendations for warranty. One person at Mobil, when pressed, did tell my the oil would be fine for a 12k/1yr interval. Keeping the warranty in mind, you probably should change oil according to your comfort level. Ford will not honor repairs if their schedule is not followed.
