Motor won't turn over after swap starter won't crank

04 150 heritage 4.6
Just put a used motor in my truck and after everything was done it will not turn over the starter just clicks (brand new starter) had it tested to be sure and it's good I check the starter relay on the firewall and that also just clicks I checked and double checked everything could a ground stop the starter from turning the motor over there's a ground coming from my firewall and not sure where it goes I can't see it from the pics I took I am kinda of stump after 2 days of trying to figure this out I am not a mechanic I just couldn't afford 3 grand for someone to put a motor in my truck any help would be appreciated thanks

Also make sure the engine is not locked up and turns over by hand.

That should have happened long before it made its way into the engine compartment..

3 grounds on the firewall over there. Starting at the firewall passenger side corner, you have a PCM ground. Second ground, next to the relay/solenoid is a larger battery ground, it's a direct battery to firewall ground. Third, -is a radio noise suppressor ground that runs either to the manifold;- or if the manifold is composite, that grounds @ the front of the engine.

Ok I will check that just so I know if one of theses grounds where not connected it would stop the starter from cranking the ground in question is right next to the relay for sure it's the only ground I remember taking off but not sure where it goes I will check in the morning thank you so the pic is in my profile I don't know John to get it on here please check it out I mounted that ground to the head and no difference

That is the engine to chassis ground. Should go to the intake manifold if it is aluminum.

Or better described as

I don't think that would effect the starter. Can you take a pic of how you have your starter harness hooked up? Maybe you have something crossed up there.

That looks correct to me. There is a frame ground just up a bit from the starter. It is part of the starter harness. Grounds to the frame just inside the passenger fender. Is that ground hooked up? Let me see if I can find a pic of it.

I guess someone should ask since the starter is clicking... have you tested the battery? It happens a lot from sitting.. not sure how long it sat during the swap but the battery may be an issue.

Hmm check the grounds they seem to be fine could it be a sensor or maybe the torque converter
