Post More on Mobil 1

I talked with a Mobil 1 engineer today concerning the recommended miles to introduce Mobil 1 into a brand-new engine. He said that the engines are broken-in at the factory and that you can use Mobil 1 from day one.

He went on to say that there is a "break-in" oil (oil that allows some increased wear) that OEM uses to seat the rings at the factory. This oil is then drained and refilled with "premium" oil before the engine is put into the truck.

Can anyone confirm or deny this practice. In essence what he was saying is that at the manufacturer's engine plant, these motors are ran before being shipped to the production line.

I guess this would make since. The OEM would not want the "break-in" oil inside the engine for 5,000 miles - the recommended change interval.

What about you engine builders out there. Do you guys use a special "break-in" oil on your new motors and then switch to normal or premium oil?

When I build an engine, I break it it with whatever is on sale. By the time the engine has seen 1000 miles, it will have had the oil and filter changed three times, and at that point I will install Mobil 1.
Take care,
