It sucks, don't waste your money.

Go to www.ftc.gov and do a search for it and you will see for yourself.

It can do more harm than good.

Stuff has ground up Teflon (PTFE) in it. Can plug up your drain back holes. Could probably (not sure) void your warranty.

Go to the bottom of the forums to Interesting web pages and look at the "Interesting site" that I posted. If you look through the site, he talks about Slick 50 and other "snake oil" treatments.

hey this is F-trucks i use slick 50 in my
truck and my taurus and my aerostar i have
used it in my 89 ford aerostar it has about
289,000 miles on it now and is the original
engine i do change my oil every 3.000 and she
still runs good! i was a little skeptic at
first when i added slick 50 and wouldnt for
sure it was helping my engines at all? but
heres a true story that proved to me that it
has to help! this has nothing to do with a
engine so here it goes. about a year and a
half ago my furnace blower ( you know the thing that blows air through your vents)the
bearings was going bad and i listned to this
awful noise for about 2 months and tried
to find a new blower for it but everywhere
i went they didnt have one to fit. it is a 1971 williamson furnace and the furnace man
just wanted to much to replace it! so i
purchased my taurus last year and changed oil
and added slick 50 to it. then i got a idea?
i saved a little and got me a eye dropper
full of slick 50 and applied some to each
bearing it took a couple of minutes to coat
the bearings and this thing was running smooth as a new one. i have run this thing
last summer for cooling, winter for heating,
and all of this summer and it is still running as qiute as a new one and i havent yet had to put anymore slick 50 on it! this
here is proof enough to me that this stuff
works! sure i will eventually have to buy a
new furnace? but for now if it starts getting
noisy again i will just add some more slick 50 and spend that money that i would have spent on a new furnace to buy more accesories
for my F-150 HAPPY TRUCKIN!!!
CHEERS!!!!!

Check your owner's manual. I think there is a specific statement about oil additives that contain PTFE.

My understanding is that using them is not advised and can be used as a reason to void the engine warranty.

I made the mistake of putting that crap in my Mustang after a rebuild. The rings never did seat properly. Break it in on a good conventional oil and switch to a synthetic at your second change. BTW I've been told, but cannot confirm, the Red Line is pretty much race specific and should NOT be used on the street, that it lacks additives necessary for long bearing life. No idea if this is true or not.

Look to the left side of the screen under Tutorials.

Let me know what you think.

FWIW, Teflon has to be heated to approx. 700 degrees F. to bond to metal. Engines do not get anywhere near this temp. If you're engine is overheating some parts may see close to 500 degrees. I am not doubting what somone said about the high mileage but you can do the same by changing the oil regularly.

If I remember correctly, when Slick 50 came out it cost $49.99 a quart. Sure was a slick way to make $50.00. ;-)

I used in my Toyota a while back. Consumer Reports did a big article a few years ago, basically said it wasn't needed. Made no difference than if you kept your oil changed regularly.

I have said before on this site that I personally love Slick 50. I remember when it would sell out fast at $50 a quart. I have also said that the choice to use it, or any other additive is up to each individual. I completely agree that the most important single thing you can do to promote a long and healthy life for your motor is to change the oil every 3000 miles, or less. I also don't necessarily recommend Slick 50 for other people. I have heard bad things and good things. For me, it's just a comfortable habit that I've gotten into. Now, that being said, let me tell you a little story that has alot to do with why I swear by the stuff. This story is 100% true. In the early eighties, I was taking an engine rebuilding class at the local junior college. We had dozens of cars, mostly beaters, that we would work on over and over again. Two of the vehicles were identical 1978 Ford Pintos. We were told that Ford would be donating two brand new engines for these two cars at the beggining of the fall semester. The instructor decided it would be fun to try and blow up the original motors so we could see engine failure at it's worst. After talking about it for a while, we decided to put an advertisement we had seen to the test. At this time, Slick 50 was bragging about a car that had the oil changed, with Slick 50 put in, and after running it for 30 minutes, they drained the oil and ran the car over fifty miles with no oil in it, and it came through it fine. We all doubted this, and decided to put Slick 50 in one of the Pintos, and regular oil in the other. They both had the same brand, type and viscosity oil, just in one we substituted one quart of Sick 50 for one quart of oil. They were both tuned and both were otherwise good running motors. When it came to the big day, we drained out all the oil, but left the filter on. We even left the drainplugs out. We then started the cars at the same time, and put a cement cinder block on the gas pedal. The Pinto without Slick 50 lasted 6 minutes before it seized up. The Pinto with Slick 50 ran for about 40 minutes before it shut down. What was so impressive about this is that the Slick 50 Pinto only quit because it ran out of gas ! When we took the Slick 50 motor apart, the engine internals were still in excellent shape. If I had not seen it with my own eyes, I probably never would have believed it. Anyway, that convinced me that it was a worth while investment.
Take care,
-Chris

Wow, that sounds good to me. The whole idea behind Slik 50 is it bonds to engine parts. Meaning when its been sitting all night and all the oil has run down into the pan, the Slik 50 is still adhered to your engine internals. The best spray lube I ever used was the Slik 50 1-lube. Thick, lubricated well. At my next oil change I'm gonna run Slik 50. Why not??
