Question 351 swap

I am looking to swap the 302 out of my 95 F-150 for a stroker 351 (408) what is needed. I think it is just ps and ac brackets and headers. I do have mass air so computer should be fine. I thank you for your help ahead of time. Billy

I performed this swap on a 72 F100. It had a manual transmission and a singel exahaust. The 351 that I used was missing the carb but had the 351 intake, accessoriy brackets and flywheel (it came out of a 78 T-bird). I put a set of duel exhaust out the back. It was a slap happy hit and miss experiance. The only issues I had were corrected when I upgraded the intake with a carb that could handle the displacement and the little problem with the duels during instillation (I later dropped the transmission and rear due to the 350 HP mill that I had dropped in). You do need to be aware of the oil pan location. The 351W oilpan may hit the crossmember. The engine mounts are the same and if you use the same transmission/housing you should have no major problems.

Good Luck

You MAY have a computer problem. The 302 Mustang HO & "Cobra" processors work with the 351, but both have the same firing order. Your standard 302 has a different firing order. I don't know whether the computer will care. SVO lists their 5.0 EFI wiring harness components as "5.0L/302HO & 5.8L/351W" not as "all 302W & 351W." You may need a 351 or 302HO processor. Don't have a clue who to ask, though. Good luck.

Thanks for your help. I think in 95 they changed the fireing order on the 302 to that of the HO so it should be the same for the 351 I think I will try it Thanks Billy

I think you'll need a 351 lower intake. The 351 has a taller deck height than a 302. this requires that the intake is wider.

Its in the tank. The pump you have should be ok unless you install high flow injectors.

With 30# injectors, you'll need a 190 lph pump, for the Mustang it's SVO P/N M-9407-C50, I don't know if the truck uses the same pumps or not. Any speed shop or Ford dealer can provide. List is $210, real world price is about half of that.

To feed that 408 I was thinking about 30# so I should get a bigger pump. Any thoughts on who makes them thanks Billy
